Whatever I cook, or even if it is packet food, whether he like or disk like the food, he will take a min of 1 hour to finish eating. I need to be beside him when he do his work, cos he is not able to read all the words and follow the instructions on the workbook.

He probably doesn't really get hungry enough. Why not just throw away the food after 30 mins, and let him experience real hunger? Kids will know how to eat when they are hungry.

Sometimes, he doesn't really eat lunch and can survive til dinner. And he ate slowly for dinner too.
My son is a small eater. At 5 yrs old, he is only 13kg. Way below the recommended weight.
Like mine too. Mine can drink water and skip lunch all together. Totally understand that. He also didn't say he is hungry. I find that if I cut his food to smaller pcs and give him smaller portions, it helps. I went through the feeding clinic and they also advised to throw away the food or keep aside then when hungry, offer again. But guess this is alright only if he is home the whole day. When eating, remove all distractions. Sit only at the dining table.

For the workbook, is it possible for you to just read instructions for him to complete? Or you have to go through every bit coz he can't read well?

it is common to have to sit beside a preschooler during their seatwork, as i find that instructions in workbook nowadays are also quite difficult to read for beginners. what subject are u coaching that needed workbook for K1? i create my own wipe-clean book using clear pocket folders and worksheets i downloaded from the internet. i sat through with him once to go through the worksheet and the subsequent time, he was able to re-do (as much as he liked as he was also free to erase them which he like) them by himself. at K1, our wipe-clean worksheets are only matching, simple counting and phonics (we traced the words and he had to read them out). i inserted maze activities printout or dot-to-dot at every few pages/end of a set of phonics, matching worksheets, number worksheets so he had a mixture of fun activities and seatwork. i also bought this (http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Everyday-Workbook-Rhymes-Workbooks/dp/B0046LUW98) which has repeated style activities (eg similar activity but for different letters) for the different letters so he could guess the instructions for subsequent letters.

as part of reading, we also did memorise dolch list. i printed out a list and paste infront of his workdesk. we did 5-10words a week (depending on how many he could absorbed).

in case you missed this (by our dear ex-forummer) - http://tamarindphonics.blogspot.sg/2008/08/how-to-teach-phonics.html
i used the template of words listed in her blog but created wipe clean book for my boy to trace the letters (eg p-a-n, my 'p' is in dark black, but my 'a-n' is in light shade red, so he could trace the red and read -an, p-an etc). i also used marker to draw some pictures relating to that word to explain the meaning - would be wipe off when he finished that page, but he would sometimes drew them back during his revision session.

        just sharing.

It will be helpful if he is home all day. Even that, he did not ask for food on weekends until I gave him. If not, he can just survive on packet milk.
For the workbook, yap, he need me to be there cos he can't really read well n understand the instructions.

I am planning my daughter for eval with Eva from Olive Tree next week. Can any mummies kindly share her experience with me about Olive Tree and Eva?

Also do you think Hanen program - "It takes two to talk" is good?

My son attended Olive Tree for about a year. They changed his speech therapist 4 times. Holly, Veronica, Kumar, Eva. By the time it reached Kumar, I was apprehensive. Kumar has a strong native Indian accent and mannerisms unsuited to my child. My DS refused to see Kumar - he clung on to poles outside the school and did not want to go to class.

That was when the owner asked me to try Eva, a new therapist he was bringing in. To a child seeking early intervention, one year is very precious. Every time a new therapist comes along, there will be transition issues. My DS needs time to adjust to the therapist; the therapist takes time to understand the child and to a devise a new set of goals etc. Before she completes the tasks, she resigns. I decided enough was enough.

The owner is a nice chap. We decided I had to do what was best for the child. I pulled out and he gave me a refund.

I am not saying Olive Tree is bad. I can understand from time to time, there will be staffing issues. But I think they have a root problem such that their staff keeps leaving and until that is resolved, they may continue to experience staff turnover.

DS is now with Dynamics for about 3 months. Very happy so far. It's a bit more pricey ($10 more per hour) and the distance further but seeing how DS is improving, it is worth it. DS therapist is Sabrina Volst, a German American who is trained in PROMPT. I was looking for a Prompt therapist. She's nothing short of fantastic. Even writes me an email on DS progress on days I can't sit in.

Hanen program - \"It takes two to talk\" is also being used by KKH for Child development for speech delay.

You can also read up or learn the strategies through the guide book and DVD.

His understanding is good though he can do whatever we ask him to. His ped feels is ok to wait a while more. It all depends on which stage the child is at.
From what you have describe, he is probably a Communicator or First Words User stage as describe by Hanen.

You can learn more about Hanen: It Takes Two to Talk workshop or program.
It can help in Speech delay in toddlers and speech therapy.
They are used by KKH for speech and learning to talk.

                        http://www.hanen.org/Guidebooks---DVDs/Parents/It-Takes-Two-to-Talk.aspx

Or you can purchase it online if you need some guide and techniques on what to do. Both book and DVD are available.
