They will usually ask you for the preferred slot. If it is available, they will put your child’s name in that slot to reserve it while he / she sits for the placement test. It doesn’t have to be at the end of the year as long as there are available slots in that class. hth

any parent whose child had gone through lower primary P1 / P2 @ Learning Point ?

Do you see any improvement in your child's English written skill(s) todate
            ?

heard that P1 / P2 LP programme focus 50 % of her bulk on creative writing composition.
the remaining 50 % focus on compreh, grammar, cloze & oral.
Thank you very much, for kind precious feedback.

            for admission -
all outsider candidates are required to take an entry assessment test, to assess your child's English proficiency level, about 45 minutes to 1 hour - test your child readiness on:-
grammar, cloze passage(s), compreh and compo. Make sure you prepare you child or else you have to try 6 mths later.

LP (Thomson Plaza) is open from Mon - Sat.
LP (Simei) is closed on Mon, open from Tue - Sat.

both branches are closed on Sun, Public holiday(s).

perhaps due to recent MOE announcement on new changes to 2015 PSLE English language paper -
LP noted a surprise surge or an increase in demand in the number of 2013 P1 classes, as compared to previous past years. Many parents keen to lay a strong foundation, the earlier the better, instead of nearing towards P5 / P6.

parents staying in the east, may take note of changes:-

next year around Feb 2013 -
Learning Point (Simei) branch will be shifting to Parkway Centre building (ie. Macdonald building, in Marine Parade). Parkway Centre is a busy, bustling booming place! Each and every floor has so many enrichment centre(s) housed in that tall building. Tao Nan SAP school, Ngee Ann, CHIJ Katong Convent, TKPS, Haig Girls, etc. are nearby around Katong, Joo Chiat area.

Learning Point will shift together with her sister school, \"Hua Cheng Chinese Education centre\". They are owned by the same owner.

              http://www.huachengeducation.com.sg/

after shifting, no more Simei (become history).

Very true phttp…Parkway Centre is booming! All enrichments centres there are packed with kids every single day of the week (esp weekends).

They boast a wide range of courses and enrichment centres in a 1-stop location ranging from childcare, tuition classes, music, yoga, abacus, art, brain training…you name it - they have it:)
Good for Maths who are looking for 1-stop place for ther children:)

                  hi Ran,

Simei Eastpoint Shopping Mall (at Simei MRT) going to start extensive renovation to the shopping centre, early beginning next year 2013. Thus, a lot of educational enrichment tenants there are scrambling high & low now to shift out of that shopping centre, start hunting alternative rental places.

think parents staying in Tampines, Pasir Ris, Bedok, Tanah Merah will much prefer LP to stay put at Simei. It's nearer for them - only 1 or 2 MRT stop away, for their Primary / Secondary school children taking enrichment lessons at LP Simei. This shift however, will ease parents with kids staying around East Coast, Chai Chee, Katong, Joo Chiat, Eunos, Kembangan, Marine Parade, Aljunied, Geylang, Kallang, Paya lebar, Lor Tai Seng - because Parkway Centre is nearer, compared to Simei. Since you are staying @ Marine Crescent, this is definitely a good move for you. 😄

btw, \"P1 HeadStart\" programme for 2013 K2 kids (born 2007) - enrolment is full house now at Simei!
Parents keen to register their child will be placed on waiting list queue.

                  http://www.learningpoint.com.sg/englishprogrammes.html

Some K1 / K2 teachers at Simei also go over to Thomson Plaza to teach, and vice versa.
Ms Choo is a good, patient and dedicated caring loving teacher.

parents with outsider kids (born 2006) keen to join 2013 P1 @ Simei -

may let your child take assessment entry test(s), on any of the following 3 days:-

                    Oct 16 (Tuesday)
                    Oct 17 (Wednesday)
                    Oct 18 (Thursday)

                    Timing for test(s) :-
choose either 10.30 am or 2.30 pm

Test takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
but need to register your child first, before coming down for actual test date(s).
                    telephone: 6783-3608

                    FAQ (by parents):-
                    i)
does child need to pay, to take entry test ?
                    No, no need to pay.
Unlike some other enrichment centre that charge hefty costs (eg: $40 in some centre), just to take an assessment; and not sure can pass test or not.
Taking LP assessment test here is free.

                    ii)
if my K2 child has taken \"P1 HeadStart\" before to transition into P1, does my child still have to take test ?
                    No.
If your K2 child had continued from \"P1 HeadStart\" programme throughout until completion, no test required. However, if the child is slow or show sign(s) of some learning difficulty / issue during class lessons, the K2 teacher may re-commend alternatives accordingly. Each child is unique.

This test is meant for outsider kids only.

                    iii)
will the same K2 teacher from \"P1 HeadStart\" going to teach my child in P1 ?
                    No.
K1 /K2 teacher(s) are different from those teaching lower Primary school pupils.

                    iv)
if currently my K2 child attend \"P1 HeadStart\" on a Saturday morning class, does it mean when child transit into P1 - it'll also be on the same Saturday morning, or the same class with his / her current K2 classmate(s) ?

                    Not necessary.
if you like Saturday morning timeslot (usually very popular & taken up fast, bec LP is closed on Sunday), you can enrol your child in it, subjected to vacancie(s) available, at that point of registration.

When your child transit into P1 - P1 is an entirely new class formed.
reason: there could be new students joining your child, esp. after the new outsider students had cleared the entry assessment test(s) successfully.

                    v)
are the school fees per Term charge(s) the same for weekday and Sat (weekend) lessons?
                    No.
The weekday lessons (Mon - Fri) are cheaper, compared to Sat (weekend).
for cost fees, kindly contact the school to inquire.

                      Hi,

For parents whose dd/ds attended the "Read for Success" programme recently, any comments about it?

My dd will be taking the assessment soon but I’m not sure how is programme like. Is it rigorous, drilling? Serious work type? Any homework? Do they only do phonics and reading the whole year before moving up to the P1 preparatory course?

Cos I’m not sure if I should sign her up if she clears the assessment. She will also be attending another assessment at another centre, so I’m pretty torn which to choose.

                        hi,

any children learnt Science here at Learning Point, currently or before (from P3 to P6 PSLE) ?
Or any parent(s) whose kids learnt Science here ?

do pupils get to do experiments inside class ?
if Yes, do pupils do experiment(s) individually, or do in group(s), or Teacher just demo to the class but pupils never get to do it hands on ?

are pupils taught concept maps diagram / mind mapping ?

@end of each lesson - does LP give pupils or highlight a list of key scientific terminology / words for that particular Science topic taught (or helping words), to help focus & remember?

                        example:-
if qn posed is \"if you cut your hand accidentally using a knife to cut fruits, why do you need a plaster ?\"
the key words examiner looking for in your answer could be :-
                        infection, or stop blood bleeding.
if the answer lack these key words, child get zero marks.
nowadays, PSLE Science examiners mark strictly. They're looking for key words.

what is max. class size like (1 Teacher to how many pupils per Science class) ?

overall, how do you feel about LP Science programme ?
is the lesson(s) more enjoyable, more play play learn for fun type, or more academic in nature ?
                        http://www.learningpoint.com.sg/scienceprogrammes.html

Thank you very much for feedback.
