2012 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

beanbear:
Same here. For this one-week holiday, for DS school, all P6 classes were asked to go back on Mon-Wed from 8am-1pm. I only allowed DS to go back for one day. When school reopens, I've decided to withdraw DS from all CCA & Supplementary classes completely.
I've already produced enough evidence for the school that DS is doing better WITHOUT supplementary classes. From now onwards, I'm in charge of DS time, not the school.
My son will not be attending any extra lessons on days when he has tuition. He will be having intensive classes for whole of June and Sep...which literally means he is not avail for anything else. -
Kids become very stressful from P5 onward. With so much supplementary lessons, remedial lessons, tuition & homework. I am very surprise to find out that P6 will not have school holidays until PSLE is over. :yikes: During our times, primary school days were so much fun & memories.
Feel sad for kids born after the 90s. They don't have childhood at all, except computer games & studies. :nailbite: MOE & government should do something about it before the next election. -

Wouldn't it be a waste if you were to withdraw your DS from CCA now as he has already put in a lot of time in the cca and could possibly use the cca for dsa.
My dd had to go back for cca mon-wed 8.45am-5pm during this school holiday in preparation for syf and now struggling to complete all her hw. When school reopens, she will be staying back for cca on tue (till 5pm) wed(till 3pm), thur (science remedial cos didn't get A for CA1), Maths remedial cos she scored 81 marks for CA1. 85 marks n above no need for remedial). Poor kids are under so much stress nowadays, there's no fun in life at all...... -

Hi Whitety,
Which school does your dd go to? Maths scored 81 marks for CA1 is already A, yet still need to go for remedial? :? Could it be supplementary lessons? Maybe you could check with her teacher? -

I've no intention of applying for DSA. He's got lots of stuff already written in his report book so I don't think need to put in anymore effort. You see, ending school at 5pm on CCA day means he gets home at about 6.15pm and then there's homework to be done. I've done a cost-benefit analysis. I believe in protecting my DS' time for rest, playground, and very importantly at least 8.5 hours of sleep every day. For the next milestone at SA1, we really need dedicated time to do revision and that's not possible if he stays back. I want to ensure he's a healthy boy, happy boy and very importantly motivated boy. These days, I still see DS smiling at me, giving me hugs and still looking alert & alive!!

We always have a choice in this. No school can force parents and children to say \"yes\" to remedial & supplementary classes. I've said no to both my DS & DD's schools for both remedial & supplementary classes and no principal nor teacher has done anything to me or my children. Sometimes I would allow for 1 or 2 terms to see whether they are effective. If they are not, I just withdraw my children from such classes.
Yes, I believe my children must have memories about their childhood - that their parents took them to the beach, swimming, cycling, movies, etc. It's up to the parents to make a stand and make it happen. -

Confirmed it's not a supplementery class as only those below 85marks need to attend. -
This is only PSLE. Yes, it is important, but I don’t want my son to get burnt out just before August or worse, during the exam. I heard there will be extra lessons on Wed in term 2. So far he goes for just suppl on Tue. Other than that, he has tuition at home. So I want him to come back, take a shower, have lunch and rest before tutor comes. Anything extra from term 2 which clashes, I will not agree.
He didn’t score As in any subject for CA1. But there is still time to work on. This should be done in a reasonable way. -
Dear lolmum and Ichigokun
Thanks for all the encouragement!
Well, just spent the past weekduring the break to really sit down and work through maths, science and english with my DS.
Actually, quite a good bonding time with of course some screaming in Between…
So, I take the poor CA 1 results as a wake up call to kids and myself… -
New school term, a new beginning. Good luck to all. Jia you Jia you!
