Thanks softcoach. The beautiful music really soothed my troubled soul. Thanks!
Hibeanbear:
Aiyo, my agony will last until next Wed!! AARGHH!!! DS's Maths, MT & Science papers will be next week. English paper on Fri. I think I need oxygen tank already. Will try to relax during Mother's Day Celebration this Sat with whole family.
Thankfully DD's P5 papers will end this Fri. I don't remember studying this hard for my own exams!!
This is really beautiful music to de-stress ...

DS just started his SA1 today and is very relax for his math paper tomorrow. He already starts to bargain for his \"shut down\" time after the SA1. He demand a 2 weeks pure break before embarking on our PSLE drilling again. Told him that it will depend on how he fair in this SA1.
I can't wait for this to be over. Have to wait until next Tuesday for the last paper to end... Pure torture

In 2011, DD came back with a bad Math score for SA1. It was a low A grade and mind you, this is from an easy school paper.
The problem? DD had been too fixated with "methods" - she was trying to identify the correct strategy for the questions and this messed up her time management and cost her many marks.
I took this as part of the learning curve she had to go through⦠she needed to be exposed to the various "tools" but she needed to see them as exactly that - tools, not answers.
After SA1 we moved on to continue revision with full papers and for the initial few, DD would verbalise her thinking steps as she was doing the paper.
I started spending more time watching her and listening to her thought process and correct from there her weak areas.
It was painful at first, it took forever but it paid off as in the end, DD was no longer confined to "methods"; instead she had tools which she used based as much on her preferences (algebra/SE) as on her experience with similar questions.
I just want to add that it seems like the PSLE is really getting close but for DD even at this time last year, she was nowhere near ready. For most kids, this journey is a long haul and they need to last and PEAK end Sept. Any SA1 grade ( good or bad) will soon be a vague memory; much more beneficial to sit with your child and analyse what went right ( this also important so that they will do this in the next paper) and what went wrong. Kids sometimes use the words " I was careless" but in fact, they may not know how to arrive at the answer but donβt want to admit they donβt know. Hence the exercise is not just asking the child "what happened", but playing Mrs Investigator to unearth what in fact happened. -

That was enlightening. :thankyou: once again for sharing. -
Last day of exams!!
Already told DD that I'm very happy effort with the effort she's put in.
Fellow parents, celebrate if your DC has put in great effort!!
Remember, the school will surely make SA1 tough to \"scare\" us into making sure the the kids are 110% ready for PSLE.
Like Chenonceau, I decided last year that we will not DSA - mainly coz we are still undecided which school to choose. No perfect fit for this idealistic mum/DD pair. -

Whatever the results, good or bad, we will just move on. Shall take a short break before we tackle on the weaker areas and prepare for the next challenge - Prelims !
All the best to all parents and their DD or DS who are still having their SA1 exams. :rahrah: -
