      I feel this is worth repeating.

      a. Schools do set \"killer papers\" which they justify by saying \"it's a wake up call\". That grade you see - ask yourself if your DC is responsible for that or is the school.

      b. That kid that is sitting for PSLE this Sept - he/she is just that a kid - all of 11 years old; most can't last a gruelling pace till Sept;

      c. Exams should be rounding up and the June hols upcoming; this period can be as long as 1.5 months; this is an excellent time to focus with your DC - not to merely do for the sake of doing more, but to work through weak areas thoroughly, if need be slowly; learn it once, learn it well and that knowledge will forever belong to your DC;

      d. Reading (b) and (c) together means : there is still some time - time which shouldn't be wasted; just because the school has \"written off\" your kid with a poor grade - should you?

      e. Imagine the child with a poor haul of grades for this exam; he/she is getting the message \" you are not good at [subject]\"; repeated once too often, the child believes it and gives up.
      I am totally demoralized by the SA1 results...results are trickling in bit by bit.
      However, I did not scold nor nag bcos he is already feeling awful. This is NOT time to do so bcos I strongly feel that those exams do not mean THE END. June is no play time, however he cannot be deprived of it completely...it's only PSLE, do I want a sane child to sit for it in sep or one who is burnt out ?

        IMHO, Now is the time to work on weaker areas and cheer them on. Prefer a highly motivated child who is willing to work hard rather than a demoralized child who loses his/her self belief.

Yet you know the system is not about ability per se, it has become one where the \"enabled\" forge ahead. Will you stand in the gap to enable your child?

              Thanks for all the ideas. Really appreciate it. As I am a SAHM without a maid nor a part-time help, I have to cook and wash and clean, bring the kids to and from school on top of all these teaching. Anyone can share how they schedule all these daily activities? I find that this is very important as a good schedule will ensure a good outcome of these teachings and revisions. Btw, I only cook dinner on weekdays.

                  How about getting temporary help via part-time cleaning services just for these crucial last few months? I work part-time and get such part-time help once a week. When the kids are in school in the morning, I have time to plan dd's revision work, mark her assessments, etc. When she's back from school, I go through her corrections with her or help her with other stuff. I don't cook dinner during weekdays bcoz we order tingkat. I find these freed-up time very precious

                    Hi ,

                    Was reading some threads and saw this from the topic : Secondary School Openhouse 2012. For those keen to bring your DD and DS to take a look at some schools , I have copied the following details for your easy reference:

                    Girls’ School
                    NYGH - 19 May 2012 from 8am to 2pm
                    MGS - 19th May 2012 from 8.30am to 2pm
                    SCGS - 19 May 2012 from 10am - 4pm
                    Cedar Girls’ School - 26 May 2012 fr 8am to 1pm

                    Co-Ed
                    DHS - 24 May 2012
                    SST - 19 May 2012 from 8.30am to 4.30pm

                    Those schools that are not stated above, I guess you can just go to the school website to check out the details.

                    Cheers !

                      Hi Mummies,

                      May I know if it’s another BIG BIG jump from P5 to P6? Thanks.

                        My advice is to get your child's P5 subjects well prepared. There is still teaching going on for all subjects. SA1 Math covers a big chunk, though not all, but enough to kill ME.
