At times I think I going crazy and messy in brain. Day passes real fast and my DS totally not ready for even his SA1 preparation don't mention PSLE. Do you ever like me wired mental like me after kid attended the tuition and doing all tuition work but still think they did not work hard or study at all?

I always read up assetment / guide books plan my time table what I want to do w my DS but ended up I did nothing w him. As he is too tired after his tuition or school works. I so sick of this feeling. 😒

U need to be realistic which one u choose, tuition or teach yr kid yourselve. My dd has only 1 tuition for her weakest subject which is mother tongue n only once a week on saturday as i want her to hv enough rest during weekdays. Even without tuition during weekday, her days already full n i believe most of p6 kids exeperience the same thing.

Im glad that i choosed nearby neighbourhood school so she can wake up as late as 7am :please: but this yr she need to wake up earlier to attend extra morming classes before school begin n go home later after supplementary classes, but i dont mind as i find the extra n supplementary classes r beneficial, i always monitor what she learns during those extra classes to evaluate if it help her or otherwise.
The school hire trainers/teachers for those classes as not to burden the school teachers, to focus on weakest topics based on last assesments, they teach methods n strategies on hw to improve on those areas so while school teachers focus on completing the syllabus those trainers focus only on weakest topics n the classes r small too only 10-12 kids in my dd classes. I asses my dd progress frm time to time so far i dont see the needs to send dd for extra tuition/enrichment classes. When dd come home, hv bath, play n i told her to sleep/nap n then go to play ground, play piano after dinner, play computer etc... when she is not too tired i wd gv her small assesment to do to see if she is doing okay or does she need 'intervention' if u cant rely on school then u must choose either u help yr kid or choose tuition carefully as not to burden yr tired kid...

Hey, my DS is also one of the tortoise moving around slowly without knowing that time is precious. Sigh......really hate the feeling of pushing him every second. How sweet it will be if only our ds can be independent in their studies. :please:

Sigh, mine too! Totally not independent. :stupid: I still need to check sch bag for hw, remind abt spelling & ting1 xie3, & preempt what other hw he has forgotten like no need hand in this & that? Fighting fire daily cos work so slowly, no time for revision.

Well like i said its a neighbourhood school, i assume neighbourhood school cant expect to hv many of their pupils go to elite enrichment centre hence they need to really put in effort to help their pupils. There probably are few kids who go to elite enrichment centre however the number in each class is not significant enough for the teachers to shake leg.. But the sad thing of this school is they also give killer paper test just like other schools :frustrated: where some p6 kids got single digit for their CA1 . Her ft told her class not to get depressed as many of psle questions are usually not as that difficult πŸ˜›

I’m glad that DS actually came home today without any homework!! It’s a good thing the teachers are giving occasional moments of reprieve.

So it was a good day to catch up with a bit of rest and do a bit of tuition homework as revision. I have chosen DS to spend his time doing tuition rather than supplementary classes because I find I can work more closely with the tutors than with school teachers.

When DS was asked to do his 4th chinese essay last weekend when he didnt’ receive the 2nd & 3rd essay back from the teacher, I put my foot down and wrote a note to the chinese teacher that I expect to see the marked essays before I get DS to do the 4th one. No point to keep doing homework but not get marked. Learning only takes place with feedback. His chinese teacher quickly called me to explain that the essays were being reviewed by the VP and returned the 1st & 2nd essays today. So i got DS to write the 4th essay today.

I’m glad the school teachers are wiling to see my rationale about homework and she appreciated that I was monitoring DS’ homework closely.

DS still manages to get to bed latest by 9.45pm every night and at least go to the playground at least 3 times a week. He has not fallen sick so far and I’m most happy about that. A healthy body is needed for this marathon.

The way I define success for this PSLE year is that DS is well-prepared to do his best + our mother-son relationship grows. It would be meaningless if he’s well-prepared mentally but physically, emotional & spiritually he’s drained and our relationship deteriorates. I don’t want to enter into DS’ teenage years with him holding bad memories about his PSLE year & hating his mother. I want to him to enter into his teenage years recalling he was well-supported, loved and having confidence about doing his best.

Hey, I agree with you on this. It's so much easier to work with tutors than school teachers. With tutors, I can follow up in those areas son is weak in. School teachers may not be receptive when I ask questions.

Giving my son Vit C every alternate day and making him drink lots of liquid - soup, juice and water.

dd also does not bring home lot of hw lately, even these last few days almost no hw πŸ™‚ either she has done it at school or there isnt any hw given by school so yeah no problem for rest & sleep early n also play time πŸ˜‰

However most of her hws (if not all) are marked by teachers n parents need to sign on each marked hw n work sheets. As for MT compos, i rarely see any compo marked by her mt teacher however her compo trainer who teach compo during mt supplementary class mark her compo at least once every 2 weeks (mt supplementary classes are especially allocated for learning & practising compos for at least 3 months), by God's grace my dd already breakthrough from 0/40 score for mt compo to 25/40 so its a good start, and the miracle part is she used to hate mt especially compo but now she love doing compo even ask her trainer to allow her bring home her reference files so she can practise at home, i have to stop her frm practising it daily as she has 3 other subject to focus on... πŸ˜‚
