good for him.
My son likes SST but his Princi, HOD & FT advised him to take the \"direct train\" for the 6-yr IP (easier & direct path to Uni).
The peak hours traffic jam at Clementi Ave 6 (busy link between AYE & PIE) is really \"HELL\".
Cheers!

The traffic along Bukit Timah/Dunearn/EngNeo also quite hellish, leh. But never hear people say they don't want to send their children to the HCI/NYGH/NJC/RGPS/NYPS bc of the jam.

Anyway, you do know that SST will be next to the current Singapore Poly in 2 years, right? It will not forever be at Clementi Ave 6.
So which IP school did your son's Principle/HOD/FT advise him to go for? -

good for him.
Also didn't say he was.

SST is just an unknown step with no history. But with SST being a govt initiative, I doubt it will be poorly setup. Surely they would want to make it a success.
The Principal of SST was the youngest Education Officer to be promoted to the Superscale level in 2008. See excerpts below :
\"MOE promotes over 7,500, including its director-general
Thu, Apr 10, 2008, The Straits Times
THE Education Ministry (MOE) promoted more than 7,500 officers this year, including its director-general and one of its youngest principals to move into the upper echelons of the civil service.....
The list of promotions also included the youngest officer promoted to the superscale grade this year, Ngee Ann Secondary principal Chua Chor Huat, 41.
Mr Chua will be principal of the new School of Science and Technology. The institution is scheduled to open in 2010 and will offer a practical four-year programme leading to the O levels.
Mr Chua, who has been principal of Ngee Ann Secondary since December 2003, has been in the education service for 15 years.\"

For info. -
NJC and SST are schools with very different programs from each other. NJC is an IP school whose emphasis is on independent learning. SST program focuses on applied learning. Parent chosing should try to understand which learning style is better suited for their kids.

NJC also works towards an application-based focus in their teaching styles, altho' they don't specifically have students take applied subjects.

Anyway, I'm sure the schools, whether NJC or SST, have determined that particular student IS suitable for their school's programme. Eh, the selection process was so rigourous & tedious! Test/camp/interview.
So I think it's fair enough, and the choice should be the child's now. -

That's one of the factors against it.phankao:
I am not aware of the event on 24 Oct at SST!......I know there's an event on 24 Oct at SST, but it's only for those who have been given CO/WL. As all places are taken up under DSA already, why does the school still need to have an open house?
..........
Probably they need this event to make sure that those who got confirmed offer will confirm their places with them and not back out. -

SST has not given out the letters informing of it yet, but it was mentioned on their shoutbox b4 they removed that box
