        Hi,

CA period. Has the answer but don’t the solutions…headache

Need help on the following questions:-

        1) At a party, there were thrice as many adults as boys and twice as many boys as girls. There were 88 more adults than boys.

        a) How many more adults than girls were there at the party?
        b) How many people were there altogether at the party?

        2) A file and a pen cost $13. If Peter bought 2 files and 4 pens for $44, find the cost of one pen.

3)Eugene had 80 more marbles than Sharon at first. After Sharon threw 12 marbles away, Eugene had thrice as many marbles as Sharon. How many marbles did Eugene have at first?
Include a clearly labelled model as part of your method.

        Many thanks!

          Hi

          P4 kids may use MD.

          Girls ------ 1 unit
          Boys ------ 2 units
          Adults ----- 6 units

          4 units ------ 88
          1 unit ----- 22

          6-1 ------ 5

          5 units ------ 22*5 ------110 (more adults than girls)

          Number of people -----9*22-----198

          Best wishes

            Hi

P4 kids may solve them in a pictorial manner.

Let a file be shown by a box and a pen be represented by a circle.

            1 box + 1 circle ------- 13

            1 box + 1 box + 1 circle + 1 circle+ 1 circle + 1circle -------- 44 (2 boxes + 4 circles -------44)

            13 + 13 + 1 circle + 1 circle ------- 44 (13+13 + 2 circles ------44)

            1 circle + 1 circle ------- 44 - 26 ------- 18

            1 circle ------9 (cost of 1 pen)

            Best wishes

              Hi

Draw 3 boxes to show Eugene marbles and 1 box to show Sharon’s marbles.

              2 units ------ 80+12 ------92
              1 unit ------- 46

              Eugene -------3*46 -------138

              Best wishes

                  Pls assist on this question:

Janice’s age is a multiple of 7. Next year, her age will be a multiple of 4. If Janice is less than 40 years old, how old is she now?

                  This year: Multiple of 7
                  7,14,21,28,35
                  Next year: Multiple of 7
                  4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,36
==> If compared to this year
                  3,7,11,15,19,23,27,31,35

My son asked why not 7 but 35?

This question actually has two answers. One is 7, and the other is 35. 7+1=8, a multiple of 4. 35+1=36, a multiple of 4. For the question to have only one solution, \"multiple of 4\" should be changed to \"multiple of 8\".
