Hi, I understand that swimming is part of HCI’s PE curriculum.

However, my son does not know how to swim. Will any special arrangements be made for him during PE lessons? Thanks.

1) Tan bought 16 kg of meat. He use 3/8 of it to make meatballs and 1/2kg to make some dumplings. How many kilograms of meat had she left?

2) ___ + ____ + _____ =12/14

what is ____ * 21?

3)A bottle of syrup was 3/4 full. After chan used 100ml of syrup from the bottle, it became 5/12 full. What was the capacity of the bottle?

Pl explain me in detail how to do this questions?
Solutions:

1) After using 3/8 of the meat to make meatballs, Tan must have 1-3/8=8/8-3/8=5/8 of the meat left. This is equal to 16*5/8=10 kg of meat. After using 1/2kg of the meat left to make dumplings, Tan would have 10-1/2 = 9 1/2 kg of meat left. Hence the answer is 9 1/2 kg.

2) This question is quite ambiguous. I assume that each of the three blanks represent the same fraction. In that case, we divide 12/14 by 3 to get 4/14. The blank represents 4/14, and 21 times of 4/14 is equal to 4/14*21=4/2*3=6. Hence the answer is 6.

3) At first, it was 3/4 full, and after that, it was 5/12 full. Hence, Chan must have used 3/4-5/12=9/12-5/12=4/12=1/3 of the bottle's syrup. Since 1/3 of the bottle's syrup is 100 ml (given by question), the capacity of the bottle is 100*3=300 ml. Hence the answer is 300 ml.

Hope this helps.

Currently, there is no cause for concern. Such storms are relatively common and harmless compared to, for example, a mega earthquake or an impact event.

Hi Parents, I wonder did your DS ever have any irresponsible teammates who were either sick or slack in doing project work like Ace project!!! My DS did almost all the slides by himself even during test period while his friends did nothing in contribution. Worst of all they did not even know the importance of the Project that carries substantial weightage in their overall msg. I wonder how can such students be suitable in IP programme. Furthermore in this consortium! They will make all sorts of lame excuse for not turning up for the discussions or meeting. How sad :stompfeet:

IMHO, if a student did not do his work because of illness, he should not be labelled irresponsible. It's not as if the student wants to fall sick, am I right?

Hi mathfreak, tysm for yr help. 😄 Btw, I dun get it why was that has to add 3 to 60 to get 63 for ques 2??

Someone pls kindly help me solve this pb sum.

For every bottle of perfume sold, Jessie gets $13. She also gets an extra $15 for every 9 bottles sold. How much money will she get if she sells 100 bottles of perfume?
If a number leaves a remainder of 3 when divided by n, it means that it is 3 more than a certain multiple of n. For example, 33 leaves a remainder of 3 when divided by 10, and it is 3 more than the third multiple of 10 (30). So we added 3 to the lowest common multiple of 12 and 15 to get the lowest number that leaves a remainder of 3 when divided by 12 and 15.

My gal is in P3.

Sorry one more q.

John and Ramesh had an equal number of sweets at first. After John bought another 8 sweets and Ramesh lost 12 sweets, John had thrice as many sweets as Ramesh. Find the numbers of sweets each of them had at first.

Can anyone help?

Anyone know of any good Math Tutor? At this rate, think my gal and I will die at the hands of this subject!!!!
Solution:
Twice of Ramesh's sweets is 8+12 = 20 sweets. Each of them had 20/2 +12 = 22 sweets at first.

Gd morning all!

I need help in solving top sch ques;

1) Kanxi is 5 times as old as Jaycee this year. Jaycee is 9 years old now. In how many years' time will Kanxi's age be twice that of Jaycee?

2) What is the smallest possible number which will give a remainder of 3 when divided by either 12 or 15?

3) Find the value of 45+(42-12)/6x5
Which operation shall I work out first after brackets? Multiplication or division?

May I know how to copy and paste the text from the top sch paper online? I tried but didn't work, is there any other method cos it's quite troublesome to type everything out.
Solutions:

1) Ratio of their current age:
Jaycee : Kanxi = 1 : 5.
Ratio of their future age:
Jaycee : Kanxi = 1 : 2.
The difference in age between two people will always remain the same no matter what. So we try to make the difference in units the same:
Current age:
J : K : Diff. = 1 : 5 : 4
Future age:
J : K : Diff. = 1 : 2 : 1 = 4 : 8 : 4
Since 1 unit is 9, and the difference is either 4-1 or 8-5 = 3 units, Kanxi's age will be twice that of Jaycee in 9x3 = 27 years.

2) The lowest common multiple of 12 and 15 is 60. We can find this by either listing, or the prime factorisation method (for more advanced learners).
Hence, the lowest such number is 60+3 = 63.

3) 45+(42-12)/6x5
= 45+30/6x5
= 45+5x5
= 70.
Note that 30/6x5 is not equal to 30/(6x5). There is a difference. Whenever multiplication and division or addition and subtraction occur next to each other, we do it from left to right. So, for example, 45-1+1 = 45, and not 45-(1+1) = 43.

Janice's age is a multiple of 7. Next year, her age will be a multiple of 4. If Janice is less than 40 years old, how old is she now?

This year: Multiple of 7
7,14,21,28,35
Next year: Multiple of 7
4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32,36
==> If compared to this year
3,7,11,15,19,23,27,31,35

My son asked why not 7 but 35?

This question actually has two answers. One is 7, and the other is 35. 7+1=8, a multiple of 4. 35+1=36, a multiple of 4. For the question to have only one solution, \"multiple of 4\" should be changed to \"multiple of 8\".

Tks a lot! Question is vague!
You're welcome. 😄
Nan Hua CA1 P6 2011

Q14.
My salary is 1/5 more than my sister but 20% less than my brother. If our total salary is $11,100, what is my sister's salary?

If Me=100%
Brother =120%
Sister=80%
80/300x11,100=2960
but answer is $3000?
Pls assist. Tks

Actually, if Me is 100%, Sister is not 80% (this means \"Me\" had 1/4 more than Sister), but instead is 100%*5/6=83 1/3%. This is so that 1/5 of Sister added to Sister will give \"Me\".
Brother is also not 120% (this means \"Me\" had 16 2/3% less than Brother), but instead is 100%*5/4=125%. This is so that 20% of Brother subtracted from Brother will give \"Me\".
The total would be 308 1/3%, which means 83 1/3% is $3000.

Tks a lot! I realised my mistake.
You're welcome. 😄
