:imanangel: Anyone knows the answer to this question?

A tank and a pail contained a total of 8346ml of water. When 314ml of water was poured from the pail into the tank, the amount of water in the tank was 12 times as that in the pail. How much water was in the pail at first?
      Cheers :yikes: :siam:

          Hi

          The answers are

          (b) 45 , follow this pattern (n+1)(n+2)/2

          (c) pattern 13 , follow this (n+1)(n+1)

          n ----- pattern number

          Best wishes

            Hi,

            have a question to ask.

Ruby and Sandy had an equal number of chocolates. Each day, Ruby ate 14 chocolates and Sandy ate 21. When Sandy had 49 chocolates left, Ruby had 112 left.
How many chocolates did each of them have at first?

I solved this question by doing this->

Let the number of days by u.
            49 + 21u = 112 + 14u
            7u = 63
            21u = 63x3 =189

            49 + 189 = 238

Each of them have 238 chocolates at first.

But how can I teach a P5 student who has not learnt such method before? Is there another way of solving this question for a P5 student?

Appreciate anyone that can help me.
            Thanks!

              Hi

              The answers are

              (b) 45 , follow this pattern (n+1)(n+2)/2

              (c) pattern 13 , follow this (n+1)(n+1)

              n ----- pattern number

              Best wishes

Still my ds is not able to follow up...can u pl explain tianzhu....[/quote]Hi

For (b), take the pattern number, in this case 9

              Sorry, the sequence is n*(n+1)/2

              (9)*(9+1)/2 ------- 9*10/2 --- 90/2 ------ 45

For total, the sequence is ( n+1)*(n+1)

              196 ------ 14*14

              Hence pattern number is 13.

I am going out. Please let me know if you need more information.I'll do it later

              Best wishes

                49 + 189 = 238

                Thanks!

Each day, Sandy will consume 7 more than Ruby.

Now Sandy had consumed 112 - 49 = 63 more than Ruby, and that will work out to be 63/7 = 9 days.

                So at first, Sandy will have 21 x 9 + 49 = 189 + 49 = 238.

Ruby will have the same number.

quekcc, thank you so much! šŸ˜„
