Same here... very enticing but have not dared to take the risk and purchase 1. Can someone please enlighten us?

Most of the groupons I bought so far are for F&B. No scam at all…but do have to read the fine prints. Some eateries only allow the use of groupons on weekdays.

For travelling groupons, you will always run into a risk of the place being over booked and you can’t get yourself a reservation for your desired travelling date.

I bought from Groupon and Deal before. So far so good. I have purchased MPH vouchers, moon cakes, Bakerzin’s and Nonya & Baba and have used them. Only disappointment was Nonya & Baba restaurant cos I didn’t realise their food is not what they used to be years ago and so so overpriced compared to Ivin’s. But that’s my fault lah, not Groupon’s or Deal’s. You’ll be fine if you stick with names and quality you know.

But I still dun dare to buy those holiday vouchers. Seems too good to be true and dun wanna my holidays be spoilt if kenna cheated.

Groupon is not a scam for the consumer. But if you run a business and want to use them to market your products or services - beware. They will make you squeeze your prices way way down so that they look good. But your business cannot do it too often or your losses will not be worth the advertising benefits.

You should also be careful if you wish to buy Groupon shares. They are not profitable and many analysts think their business model is not sustainable.

I am also a bit worry about giving my credit card details for groupon purchase. Am I unduly worried?

Same level of risk as with other online purchases, I suppose?

Someone in this forum went on such a trip.

Bought a TV and a DVD player through Groupon but the fulfilment party is Courts. Also bought some massage packages. Very satisfied with the TV and DVD I have purchased. But the massage package was not something I would buy again. After the massage, the usual stuffs - they "lock" you up in a room and hardsell you a package. But I went prepared so after like 30-45 minutes of hardselling with no result, they let me go… But I must say this is not Groupon’s fault.

Not too sure about the holiday vouchers though. Must check the fine prints, never know there may be hidden cost somewhere else.

bought a travel deal on goupon. it was quite a bad experience. the room that we wanted and have pre-booked was not available and we were very upset and wanted to kick up a fuss. but the staff showed us the fine print that says ‘subject to availability’ and there was nothing we can do.

we were given 2 options, one is to upgrade and top up an amount which is almost equivalent to the savings that we first though we had. the other was to take the room which is nothing like what we saw on the ad…

in the end we decided to top up and we have told ourself, never to go buy travel deals with highly ambiguous terms…
