Actually he charged me $1,200, instead of $1500 that he quoted, for 1st treatment. Still it's rather ex. Think it's too late to switch ....shld have been more patient & guai guai gone to your recommended endo Chief... Actually I did call up both clinics to ask the est cost for pre-molar, both quoted roughly the same price. I thought molar is much more ex, so..... :gloomy:

Even MOH's website shows Q&M dental for RCT - molar is ~$1,200 (higher end).
      http://www.moh.gov.sg/content/moh_web/home/costs_and_financing/Dental_Fee_Info/Root_Canal_Treatment_Molar_Tooth.html

I think I'll not name the clinic here lah, I still got 2 more treatments with him. If you wish to know, pls pm me. I actually went to him cos he was recommended in other forums. I think he's ok but pricey.

Even so, the fact that he intends to charge you another $350 for the 2nd followup session makes the whole package exorbitant. Crowning for $800 is also on a high side. You can get it done for under $600 at most GP dentals.

Suppose you consume room temperature food, does the pain persist?

Before the RCT, when I drink room temp water, it hurts. It hurts even when I brush my teeth, can you imagine? I got phobia doing all these seemingly normal activities. But after 1st treatment, everything's ok liao. A great relief!

Chief, I just called Dr Sim's clinic, cos was thinking of going there for 2nd(filling) & 3rd (crowning) treatments. However, the staff told me Dr sim doesn't do crowning, whilst 1st & 2nd treatments are included in the package, which in my case (molar) may cost $900-$1,200. Looks like I am stuck with my endo for 2nd treatment.

If you don't mind, can I know where did you do your crowning? How long is it supposed to last? I was informed by my current endo that a good one will last between 10-15 years or more. normal ones between 7-10yrs? Difference in price is abt $300. I don't want to get slaughtered again just because I'm a newbie to crowning! 😢

A tooth that has undergone RCT is effectively a dead tooth, as all the nerves, blood vessels etc inside have been removed. That is why there is no pain in a tooth that has undergone RCT. And because it is dead, it cannot heal or recover from wear. Thus a crown is essential to protect it. You should get it down as soon as possible.

A crown is just a metal (usually palladium) cap over the tooth. For aesthetics reason, it may also have a porcelain surface over it. Any half decent dental GP should be able to do a crown. But it will take more than one visit because a mould has to be made first and the crown ordered.

Once you went to the first endo, there is no turning back. I don't think Timothy will accept you as a patient either since it would mean he has to take responsibility for any problem that may be due to the first treatment. He specialises mainly in RCT, which is why I introduced you to him in the first place. Hence he is really good at RCT - I had no pain during or after his treatments. And from your experience, I now know that his prices are really reasonable, although I did think they were expensive at the time I was going through the treatment.

If you wanted an implant, I would have introduced you to another specialist who specialises in that, and can do it for much lower than the $5000 quoted to you.

So no choice. You have to complete the RCT with your current endo. For crowning, go to any GP dentist. Mine is from the NTUC franchise. It should be no more than $600. If you take care of your teeth and avoid eating brittle things, even the normal crowns should last you for a long time.

Suffering from tooth ache for the two days (ouch!).

It’s from one of the teeth that just went through a filling due to decay few months back. Doc back then had warned me if pain returns = roots infection.

So guai guai went to telephone Timothy recommended by Chief but his clinic was unable to take me in until next week coz fully booked.

So, ANYHOW looked for one coz those who were recommended couldn’t squeeze me in.

Went to this doc in Ghim Moh.

Quoted me $800 for root canal and $800 for crowning. All in.

Today is the first treatment. Friday the next. Hope to finish everything, incl the crown, by the 5th appt. Per treament is about 2 - 2.5 hours.

So far, so good. No pain at all when he drilled and dug.

Now half face paralysed due to numbness (noticed something interesting. The numbed part of the face has no 法令纹 while the other side has. Once side looks ‘younger’ and the other side looks ‘older’. Well, similar to Botox effect!)

Anyway, the implant charges there is $3500 all in per tooth. If my root canal goes smoothly, then I bring my brother there for the tooth implant (think 2 to 3 years back the cost quoted was about $7000/tooth in Paragon).

Was amazed that ‘root canal’ actually quite an ‘easy’ process (used to imagine very difficult). Hopefully I have this 瞎猫碰到死老鼠 luck again, coz this dentist I really sort of plucked from the air without any recommendation…
