      Hi,

For those parents who have children Primary 6 & below presently.

Are you aware that there are changes to the PSLE Maths? Namely the use of Calculators?

After attending a conference at my son’s school over the last 2 weeks, who is in Primary 6 this year, I realised that there are much changes to the PSLE papers.

The emphasis has been moved to differentiate students who know WHY and NOT just HOW to do the questions.

There were uproar of some of the questions of PSLE in maths papers 2 years back.

      Any comments?

:? i think the purchase of calculator is requried since P5. I knew about the change since last year. My kid is in P6 this year & another one in P5. They are already using calculator to do some of their homework.

I think it make sense to use calculator and I like the idea.

          Hi Martin,

if this helps, this is the official Syallbus guidelines for Primary School (Mathematics). For PSLE-wise, pay attention to the subjects P4 and up. This should serve as a guideline.

          http://www.moe.edu.sg/education/syllabuses/sciences/files/maths-primary-2007.pdf

For specific format/type-of-questions, I recommend buying past year PSLE Papers, which can be found at Popular bookstores for only $2 (I got the orange booklet, 2004-2008) but these are more for general reference only.

            B Short-answer 10 1 10%
            5 2 10%
            2

Candidates will sit for both papers on the same day with a break between the two papers.

Martin, your son is already well-trained in the new format since p5. He wouldn't only be learning of it in the last 2 weeks, esp with the current exams already.

                      Dear Mummies & Daddies,

take a deep breath and don't stress yourself too hard. It will rub off on the kids 😉

Have fun and all the best to all kids taking their PSLE.

This is the start of the many battles in life to be fought.

                      Take care and God bless!

Worry and anxiety can spread, so do not ‘pass’ it to your kids. just treat it like school exam.
