we r abt the same situation. I think i am maintenance free,hehe...I'm actually the flowers and jewelry type of wife. I get them myself but DH pays. Flowers from the wholesaler ... Very much cheaper lah. For jewelry, I used to agree a budget with DH ... Not expensive piece and only one piece in a year. For birthday, anniversary, VDay etc rolled into one. Stopped this jewelry thing many many years ago, but I still get myeslf flowers every now and then, depending on mood. And of course, I still wear the bling.
For many years, we stopped giving each other gifts. I think as we grow older, we get more particular, so it gets difficult to get stuff for DH. If DH needs new clothing, I'm his personal shopper, running from changing room to store, changing size and style. He takes very long to decide. And because I'm with him, he pays.
DH does not get gifts for me too. I used to run back to the store to change. So I think he's given up. But he does not question when he pays the credit card bill, when I buy stuff for myself, usually once in long long time. I don't get branded stuff though, don't see the need, as long as good quality and i like design, ok for me. I think I'm getting more low maintenance with age...Haha. Big ticket item, like mobile phone, etc will discuss with him before purchase. But then, this is very rare, my mobile has been with me for maybe more than 4 years. Still good working condition and serves its purpose, so no need to upgrade.
We used to give each other gifts. Things changed once i \"trf dept\" fr. FTWM to SAHM.Coz i don't nid new bag/wallet/jewellery,not much to wear.
For me, a simple meal as couple, even in hawker centre is happy event.
I still wearing some of blouses or t-shirts which i bot 10yrs ago. -

My dh prefers to choose his own stuff. He has a wish list. So long he gets (my) approval to buy any item on his wish list, it's considered his presentI'm more curious about all these gift-buying/exchanging.
Is it a 1-way traffic or 2-way?
For those who receives......do you also buy back?
For those who dun, do you give?
So far I only surprised him once with a Mont Blanc wallet. -

Before kids, when he was a poor student, I bought clothes for him. He chose I pay. Now he is earning more than me and I am too busy to go shopping, he buys for me. I find that his family does not spend much on food, more on clothes, so I will buy gourmet chocolates for SIL and MIL, and sometimes take him and the kids to a restaurant with nice ambience. Over the years his tastebuds have become more refined.I'm more curious about all these gift-buying/exchanging.

I am not a flowers/jewelry/make-up type of wife...all those romantic stuff is not my cup of tea, thank goodness. Anyway, if I expect hubby to whisk me to some giddy French restaurant, I would be very disappointed. My hubby's gifts have always been related to his interests - IT. So I receive iPhone or iPad...either with pink or red protective covers. Valentine's day gift this year is samsung tablet (la fleur).
Hey Janet,
Looks like we are on the same boat. The gifts I get are also related to his interest. -

My DH usually buys me IT gadgets like iPad, iPhone etc. Even Valentine's day also no gift. Just plenty of hugs, kisses and a nice treat in the restaurant. If I'm waiting for him to buy me bags, shoes or clothes, sorry wont happen :rant:TheAnswer:
vinegar, the answer
No la, he doesn't buy gifts often. Rarely in fact.
He said he can't figure out what I like and dare not buy the 'wrong' gifts.
So whenever he thinks his hunch is right, he will buy multiple at a one go.
my DH nvr buy IT gadget.no hugs/kisses/treat in restaurant. He doesn't wanna sacrifice his leaves for me le.All his leaves reserve for his parents.
My DH only takes leave during our birthdays and anniversary or if we are going for holiday. If I'm sick, he doesn't take leave. I am expected to see the doctor and rest at home. He will just watsapp me to check if I'm feeling better or what would I like for dinner. Similarly, I also do not take leave when he is sick.
His leave is also mostly for his parents. I'm ok with that. Take leave to bring them for medical checkup. I also tag along if I have time. DH is very filial. He also takes leave to bring my parents to medical checkups. I have no complains on how he utilizes his leave. -

For me, I have to seek permission if I want to buy him something expensive. The rule has been there since we were dating. DH doesn't quite like surprises. He rather I consult him before I buy. Like yesterday I saw a coach wallet, wanted to get it to replace his old one. Talked to him last night. He disagreed saying its too expensive. He told me to tell him when I see a cheaper one. No brand also never mind.I'm more curious about all these gift-buying/exchanging.

I bought him leather gloves (those for cycling), a leather smart cover for his iPad mini and a salon hair cut package last year. All with his permission. He is the kind who want to choose so I have to tell him.
On normal days, I pamper DH in the following ways:
1. When we are out, I offer to pay if anything catches his eye (he rarely accepts)
2. Return home with his favourite food when I'm out with friends
3. Offer to accompany him to sim lim (trust me, I'm a familiar face there)
4. Top up his junk food at home so that it never runs out
5. Offer vouchers which he can use to claim for massage at home (obviously with conditions attached)
6. Offer to have fast food with him -
Hey The Answer,
We can shake hands :hi5:
Hubby is an android person...I can never bring myself to use Samsung no matter how he praises it...in fact before I got my iPhone 5, he was still singing praises of the S3. I played with the demo unit and after 1 min, I told him...cannot.
We got a pair of iPhone 4...but he cannot stand it, just like I cannot stand android. -

Now my DH and I are using different phones. He upgraded his iPhone 4S to Nokia Lumia 920. He upgraded mine to iPhone 5 as I wasn't interested in Nokia Lumia. I actually do not like to change phones but DH loves to upgrade phones so I just let him be. All the set up he will do. After that he will teach me how to use it. I'm like an IT idiot!Hey The Answer,

Honestly speaking, I have zero interest in IT stuff. I just go with the flow. -
When hubby’s plan was due for upgrade, he got Samsung 3s…I got my iPhone 5 and delighted with it, except for the lightning cable…which I find so ridiculous.
He will register and transfer all my contacts over via PC…also add in credit card for downloading of apps (must be free, or else Kenna nagged).
