GEP and IQ

:? Where did you get that idea from? GE Branch has NEVER made such a statement or promise before. If that's the impression you and your friends have you should correct them or they will be very disappointed when things don't go their way.
I thought MOE GEP branch is promising their GEP students a 'Smooth' sailing education ranging from scholarship, white-horse treatment in NS, future CNB and SCDF Commissioner something like that. -

You are mistaken. There is not such promise of smooth sailing. We know from our contacts, her son is now 23 years old. GEP student when he was 10 years old. Went to ACS I, IB programme. During NS time, not even clinched an officer rank. Applied for scholarship was rejected interview failed. Reason: the parents said their son's EQ is a hindrance.
What pissed us off, the mother expects every child to follow her son's style. Instead of playing or socialising with friends, her son will read book at one corner when he was younger till today. The mother will ask other children to keep quiet and read books, she can't stand the laughter of children.

Maybe that child's behaviour is not due to his EQ or IQ, but is so because of his mother. -
Haha, first time I hear MOE promised such things. Even scholars aren’t given white horse treatment. White horse treatment is birth right, not something u can earn from scholarships or being in GEP. It’s because of who your father or mother or grandfather is.

There should be a reason for MOE skimming 5% of main cohort to join the GEP programme. Besides learning abilites, I think they are looking for something else with these 5%. They won’t simply wasting time in conducting GEP screening test end Aug and middle Oct for P3 kids.
I know 2 persons age abt 38-39 in which they were the first batch when GEP was introduced. The guy was from Fairfield Methodist, transferred to ACS Barker, RI and RJC, NUS. After pursuing law degree and practised as a lawyer for few years. In the end give up everything to become full time pastor.
The other lady was in RGPS, RGS, RJC, went to London for University. Pursuing career as SIA air-stewardess. Served 6 years contract, quit to become Republic Poly lecturer -

You are right. The whole family is quite strange. This guy is their only son. -
The idea of GEP program is to cater for the education of the students who are able to learn faster and pick up advanced topic easier (note: on their own).
Without the program, some of these students could otherwise be ‘bored’ or not able to fit in to the mainstream structure of studies, because it just doesn’t suit them. They may end up not realizing their potential.
What they eventually achieve is nothing the MOE or anyone can promise. Anyone who does well, be it mainstream or GEP or home school etc can do just as well.
MOE is just helping to identify these students who may be better suited with this format of education, they are not ‘scholars’, or ‘meant to-be groomed’ just because they are in the GEP, it’s just too early to tell how they will do in studies, in work, in life.
Cheers. -

Not all GEP will get scholar and not all scholar will become Chief-of-XXX. We don't have so many Chief-of-XXX in SG and once appointed will serve for 10yrs or so. Just imagine there are ~500 geppers each year, how can everyone become scholar or white-horse? I would say the top positions will probably be taken by scholar but not the other way round. Which means not all scholar will eventually be given top positions. We know from our contacts, her son is now 23 years old. GEP student when he was 10 years old. Went to ACS I, IB programme. :offtopic:
Talking about White Horse, I am only aware that this status can be found in their medical document. I remember one of my mate was a judge's son and they only discovered it after he fell and bruised his shin. From there onwards, he missed most of BMT!! -

Not meaning to start a debate here with anyone. Just sharing what we personally went through during P1 to P3. Bottomline, with or without IQ report hasn't made a difference to her learning experience in school. At home, sky is the limit to learning
At the very least, an IQ report lets the parents understand that their child is not the \"problem child\" the teacher(s) made him/her out to be.
I'm just arguing _for_ an IQ test if you suspect your child is somewhat different, as opposed to being indifferent and just \"let nature takes its course\" with the child.
Apparently, you did that (doing the IQ test) with your child too. I'm glad things turned out well.

When I took my GEP test 4 years ago, I passed the first round. Then 2nd round I couldn't pass and so, didn't change primary school XD
Partially quite happy I didn't change schools
All my good friends are here!
