Hi Koh,enoawng:
Hi,
Any anyone tell me whether it is compulsory to submit third language option MSP (Malay) etc.. when registering S1?
If you don't do it now, will you have to do it later?
Thanks
Hi, enoawng.
It's not compulsory to opt for a 3rd Language, but it's compulsory to submit the option form by the S1 Posting submission date. If you are not interested, you will need to indicate -NIL- at all the 3 columns of choices.
If you do not exercise your 3rd Language option with this S1 Posting Exercise, you will not be allowed to do it in future.
Hope this helps.
thanks. One more question.
If you elect 3rd language option now during S1, can you withdraw without any penalties later if the child does not like it?
Cheers -
I think after each semester you can choose to opt out if you can’t cope… this piece of information was given by my senior. Anyway, just a question. If we put all 3 choices for 3rd language, MUST we take ALL 3 OF THEM? curious: /

Most IP (A level route) kids take HMT. Once they clear (ie pass) or meet IP internal grade HCL/HMT at O levels (yes they sit for this paper at O levels), then they do not need to take CL in JC, freeing more time for JC subjects. But of course try to assess if she can cope. IPs like HCI or RV may specify min grade for HMT and not just pass before they can drop CL in Year 5. So please double check this properly.
As for 3rd Lang, different IPs treat it differently. Some encourage it by allowing it to replace a core Humanities subject of lower score. Some IPs treat it just as another subject so the 3rd lang may affect overall score.
Like some one said in this forum, perhaps not just see it from our typical Singaporean KS angle and look at marks etc. Instead this additional subject may be seen as allowing your DD exposure to a different culture, a different experience. Do make the decision based on your personal factors.good luck choosing. -

It's not about whether you can take all 3, is that you can't. You will be given 1 in the end. It's just like S1 posting, you can't get into all 6 choices, but only 1 out of it all. -

Hi, So sorry, thousand apologies for my late reply.
I called MOE on Monday, plus the info I gathered from this forum; there is NO PENALTY for early withdrawal. In fact, some members here posted that at every term end/year end, teachers would ask if any pupil need a withdrawal form (to withdraw, LOL.)
My DS has just signed up today for 1st choice Japanese and 2nd choice Malay
Don't worry, go ahead, let your DC try.
All the best!
Regards. -
I am selling Sec 1 MOE Japanese language books and materials. In good condition. Interested, please PM me.

Let your kid try 3rd language if qualified. No harm. My girl has done one year and has been going strong.
