DSA Appeal 2011

I dont think rgs website states that dsa appeal must be approved by moe. This is not possible . We all know how efficient is our moe. The whole world is progressing but they heng tat ka ki
I think MOE informed all schools that all appeals/transfers (not sure if only for DSA or for all) have to be approved by them. So whether or not they post it on their site doesn't matter. It's how MOE is handling it. -
Most parents and students appreciate each CO. They also discuss like crazy and deliberate before making that decision to accept a CO that is 2nd choice.
The respective school selects a student and honors its commitment to take in the student irrespective of the T-score ,as long as he/she is qualified for the express stream in PSLE.
For those who want to challenge the MOE after getting better results than expected need to read the rules again and abide by it.
Don't be unreasonable that the whole system need to change because of a few who are practically very shortsighted and dishonorable. Please impart good values to children.Parents were given the opportunity to pull out before the PSLE results.Parents should teach children that when a commitment is made one must see to it is fulfilled. Otherwise it is shifting goalpost to suit oneself when the situation warrants it.Its considered bullying and cheating is it not? A parallel to this type of thinking is what communist leadership does in real life situation-always trying to extend their territories at others cost-not playing by the rules always creating chaos. No offense meant as some may be blurred by the anxiety to provide the best for their children could have erred in their judgement. It could happen to the best of us. :celebrate: -

in previous years, all appeals / transfers also needed MOE approval. the schools involved submit the respective name lists to the MOE and the MOE transfer the students' data (academic records etc) to the accepting schoolsyamatomato:

Snow Crystal:
Purely special talents in CCA? Mainstream academic being accepted via DSA is actually very small number per school. So you mean DSA =Alchemist:
Perhaps it's time to reviews DSA and restrict it to those with special talents in CCAs
(a) GEP +CCAs only? Mainstreamers will cry foul- \"elitism\" :stompfeet:
Or
(b) CCAs only? GEPpers will cry foul- \"aiyo, some of us won't do well in PSLE. We join GEP for what if no DSA advantage....\"
Btw congrats on your DS' results and hard work! :rahrah:
No easy answer huh? I think DSA was introduced in the right spirit. They should not have been lax in execution.
Thanks. -

Maybe I've remembered wrongly about the MOE approval indicated in RGS website. Will edit my post to remove that. But as JToh and VKS have pointed out, all appeal needs MOE approval and transfer of student records. -
Well, top schools like RI/RGS/NJC/HCI/NUSH also don't take in other than academic and sports under DSA.
To rephrase my point, aside from SOTA, SPORTS SCHOOL, NUSH, (ie special talent schools that really want to develop a child's special talent) dsa via academics should be done away with. Let PSLE and students' choices do the sorting, and allow official appeal process after that for unexpected cases.

the schools concerned are equally responsible, and hence they have notified parents about no transfer - as reported by ksp members -
Dr.K:
I have no p6 kid this year. For those with older kids, we know that the schs have been allowing transfers in recent years. That is the fact. Things have panned out differently this year and being a parent with no p6 kid, we do not know what has been told or not told to the DSA CO parents on adhering to CO with no transfer this year. And which parent doesn't know all should try to honor commitments and impart good values to our kids. But when you are in those parent' shoes then it may turn out different feeling and action especially when you see the schools have been ok with such transfers in the past. Please don't make these parents sound like immoral parents. They are like you and me - full of love for their kids. My frens in such situations are not selfish people. Let those who do not sin cast the first stone.

I don’t think moe’s approval is required when sch approve the appeal cases esp for s1 posting cases. It is more like informing moe to update the records. There is time constraint for appeal cases, 1 more week and sch starts . If every appeal cases need moe approval , it will not happen . As mentioned earlier, our moe moves like a snail

In my view, MOE should re-look into the dsa process and timing. If DSA applicants are allowed to exercise their options after they receive their PSLE results, together with the S1 posting, then the issue of appeal will disappear.
The computer can be programmed for those with dsa CO to be posted first, then dsa WL to be posted second, with the qualification that the dsa school has to be listed as student’s first choice (just like affiliated schools), before it proceeds to post the rest.
