For context.. my child’s batch, 8-10 in the school went to round 2 and 1 passed round 2.
Sounds like a substantial number of kids made it through round 1. Is this true across the board?
My kid is in a GEP school and even then, I’m surprised by the number going by MOE’s lines. -
Hi parents, I agree that perhaps more students got into round 2 this time?
I didn’t pin much hope but we got the letter from MOE, my son is from a non-GEP school.
Congrats to all who made it, it is still an encouraging news for the kids! -
A friend just sent us this for more info. Sharing here for fellow parents who are curious about Round 2. Hope it's ok?

I doubt it’s any more or less than last year. 10% of screened gets selection test and 10% get Invited for GEP. My kids class is the average class where 4/40 got thru next round
Thanks, revils-ling for the link. Some useful tips. I’m sure there are parents who will send their kids to such courses. But to all, please be mindful that if your kid’s “intelligence” is somehow inflated by extra coaching, may not benefit them eventually. There’s some risk they can’t appreciate / keep up with the GEP syllabus and get demotivated? -

U're welcome AHsDad. I thought it'll be a good read becoz it's good for the kids to know what they can expect in Round 2, at least in terms of the test format. As for the extra courses, it's up to individual families if that's what they prefer to do. Que será, será. Hope these children get to where they're meant to be. :xedfingers:

Heard from my child that they were told the selection test might be held in their own school.

Yes I agree that the % of students who got through round 1 would be the same year after year. MOE has a kpi to fulfil and is unlikely to deviate from it.
I think that it’s best to expose the child to a wide genre of literature and materials that stimulate critical thinking instead of sending him/her to a prep class. This allows the child to have an inquisitive mind in and out of school. Even if the child got into GEP on the account of being prepped, the ensuing 3 years could be difficult due to the intensity of the curriculum.
Like someone said, que sera sera. It’s good enough to know our kids are doing well academically but there’s so much more to life than grades.

This is highly likely. It will probably be an Equiz format like how the DSA system has moved online. It makes sense if you ask me coz there will be no mingling of students across schools (minimise/avoid transmission of covid if any +ve individuals) and in terms of marking will be much faster too if computerised. Round 2 is more than a month later than “usual” after all. Very busy time for MOE personnel. I’m also guessing that kids will be asked to do ART just before the scheduled dates before they show up.

If that is possible, I think it’s a win win.

Kids go to a familiar surrounding.
And
The test center do not have a sudden influx of new students.
