I think I just need a seat (any course) as a bridge. Coz difficult to go anywhere with just O, right?

Came across this article from CNA yesterday: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/singapore-o-level-results-level-subject-passion-career-4027201
An excerpt:
JOBS AREN’T ALWAYS RELATED TO FIELD OF STUDY
In 2017, experts convened by the Institute for the Future think tank predicted that 85 per cent of the jobs in 2030 hadn’t yet been invented. Chances are that’s about when an O-Level student today will be entering the job market.
Although we think that the forecast is exaggerated, it does make the valid point that many jobs will be disrupted by technology. Therefore, it might seem that the choice of A-Level subjects would become less important. But we think not.
We examined data from the National University of Singapore (NUS) for students who entered in the year 2013. Six months after graduation in 2017, 75 per cent reported being employed in jobs either related or partially related to their university studies. However, a sizeable minority (25 per cent) were in jobs unrelated to their university studies.
This suggests that although university programmes (and by extension, the A-Levels) do influence career pathways, they are not completely deterministic. People seem to have some degree of flexibility in pursuing jobs, even those which are unrelated to what they have studied.
One likely reason is that university education imparts soft skills like critical thinking, creativity and communication, which are valued across a wide range of different occupations and industries. Adaptability and the willingness to continually learn new skills are likely to take on expanded importance in the years ahead.
Another likely reason is that graduates of technical programmes can transition to fields such as data science, software engineering and finance. However, it would be relatively more difficult for graduates of humanities and most social science programmes (economics being the obvious exception) to make the same switch.
So, it is still important that students (and their parents) consider their options with care.
-
Yes there will be those who regret their choices. Be it Poly or JC. Thing is for kid who do not know what they want, oft times they realise what they do not want only when the embark on it.
Cousin's son went to poly, by the end of year 2 he decided the course he was taking was not really what he wanted, so he switched to another course in poly completed that then went to uni and completed that though he say felt it was a waste of time. Joined a company that all along he thought was what he wanted only to realise it is not what he envisioned.

Perhaps for other students, who are doing the same identical "IT cum AI" course inside the Polytechnic, the students are happy because it is truly what they desire for. So, this is the correct, right course for them.
But for my friend’s son,
it is the wrong course for him, because he just choose a Poly course, based on consulting his ex Sec 4 fellow classmates + school mates,
"what is the in thing trend now, that companies are hiring, inside the market place ? " is wrong.
Part of the reason why my friend’s son took "AI" course
was because
for his Youth generation (born after 2005, onwards),
he worried that
one day,
AI may take away some of our current traditional jobs or job scope.
Thank you, for your time spent, in reading.

AFTER the year 2000,
Is very vastly different from that era in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s that we were born in.
Nowadays, when u look for future career, need to ask yourself :-
Will AI (Artificial Intelligence)
make me redundant one day,
take over my job scope, going forward, into the future ?
You study, study in university faculty is one thing. But there are certain things, beyond our control -

Another one that is quite safe is allied healthcare. Due to our aging population, hospitals will only get busier. Allied healthcare staff (speech therapist, psychotherapist etc.) will not be out of a job!!

agree, but not anybody can do AI - writing prog/Algorithm to automate machine learning, machine takes over human job. Iphone Siri is a simple example, now we have such smart system in cars too (Tesla!)
