Oh, I get what you mean now. No, they are not affiliated to boy school such as CHS. I don't think if there is any affiliation between girls and boys school. I maybe wrong. Just can't see how is that possible unless CHS decided to take in girls from girls school for their IP programme. -
Hi everyone -
This forum has been very informative.
I’d like your thoughts on what my chances on SJIJ Phase 2B > 2km. I’m specifically looking for data/statistics in the balloting history in this phase the last couple of years.
We are catholics and personally am inclined towards SJIJ given that it has secondary school affiliation.
I’m also considering the possibility of moving to a place that is closer to SJIJ to increase our chances.
PS: I’ve posted the same on 2 other threads but didn’t get any response so I’m hoping that posting here will bear fruits.
Thanks in advance. -

For balloting at Phase 2B >2km, it's 1 in 3 this year. In 2011, it's 1 in 8 iirc. For 2013, I predict the chances are lower vs 2012. -
Better to move nearer SJIJ if that’s what you really want.

Thanks for the earlier response on SJI Jr.
I’m getting very anxious and am think about other alternatives. I hope the information gathered here and from research, etc. will help everyone make informed choices on the day of registration.

We are Singaporean Catholics and personally am inclined towards Maris Stella given that it has secondary school affiliation.

Click on Toa Payoh.
MSHS did not have balloting for Phase 2B last year. Very good chance. MSHS has SAP environment while SJIJ does not. Choose this if distance is not too far away. Boys are a cheerful bunch and the CCAs are interesting. -
Thanks very much for responding cherrygal.
The thoughts and links you and the others provided are extremely useful.
I am now better informed, clearer about the chances and the alternatives that are available. I will be looking forward to the P1 registration along with the other parents.
All the best to everyone. Thanks. -
Hi there,
I might be too early now. Since I won't be doing P1 registration till 2016.
I have a a boy(2010) & a girl(2011) and will be moving to Lorong 1 Toa Payoh in end 2013.
Would you:
1. Register DS in 2016 at NYPS under Phase 2A(2) [Daddy was an ex-student of NYPS] so the girl gets Phase 1 priority in 2017?
2. Register DS in 2016 at SJIJ under Phase 2B [We are all baptised Catholics]?
3. Register DD in 2017 at CHIJ TPY under Phase 2B?
4. Do step 1 in 2016 and if failing to get into NYPS do step 2?
My new place will be within 1-2km of SJIJ and it only <500m to CHIJ TPY. We were seriously considering NYPS until we discovered DS has bit of speech delay and think the environment at NYPS might be just too much for him though we think DD will likely thrive in NYPS environment.
A CIL who put her kids into NYPS has advised us against it. First NYPS only has affiliation to NYGS thus the boy will be left 'stranded', and if the girl is an average performer, she might not make it into NYGS. So better off putting them into a primary school with secondary school affiliation and if they are good, they can get into a good secondary school based on their own merits.
What are your views on getting into SJIJ(<2km) & CHIJ TPY (<1km) under Phase 2B?
Thanks

If it were me, I would just use daddy’s NYPS alumni status first (but pls join alumni to get 2A1) coz SJIJ and CHIJ may require balloting at Phase 2B by 2016/7.
If Ds really can’t cope, transfer to SJIJ or Maris Stella at P2. If DD is a good performer, she’ll thrive there so why be afraid of NYGH? If she can’t get into NYGH, then go CHIJ Sec from NYPS. Although a Catholic environment is nice, giving up NYPS is a bit "sayang"…
I am sceptical about pple with their own kids in NYPS and yet advise others against going to that school… there could be a tinge of selfishness coz there are many pple like that… listen only if you really trust this person’s views.
And your DS is only like 2+ now? Many things can be done to overcome the speech issues if it’s mild. It’s a bit early to judge his abilities unless a doc has confirmed it.
Frankly, with parents lobbying MOE to remove the priorities of alumni, clans/ religious groups / grassroots etc, your DH’s alumni priority may have disappeared by then… even the Catholic priority may not be safe anymore… we just have to wait and see. Then strategize nearer the date.
