Yes, some are looking for teachers desperately. Ntuc kindy is expanding, they are looking many early childhood teacher or assist teacher.

Moe is picky, I won't be surprise. In fact they should do that.
What if they recruit anyhow teacher? Our kids will be the victim.
So, I support moe to be a picky n strict to search a good teacher 🙂

Kindy or childcare? Childcare teachers got to bath and clean up after kids...

I believe it's a childcare, but according to my friend who is bonded by ntuc, they hv kindy too. She is under the kindy side.
kindy is half day kind of classes? Childcare centres ops full day.

Working hours at kindy from 7.30am to 3pm, they follow school holiday. It’s under moe. As for cc, it’s 9 hours working a day, some cc open on sat so teacher needs to come back on sat (half day), but not every sat…1sat work, 2sat off. It’s under mcys…not follow school holiday

To be relief teacher, just deposit resume? So far nobody call me to ask me teach.
go to MOE, fill up appln form, deposit the relevant cert.. that's all.

That was decades ago.. not sure now still valid or not..

I am also thinking of a mid-career switch into teaching. I am a Singapore citizen (born and bred). I have a B.Eng (Hons) and M.Sc, both from NUS. I did well enough at 'A'-levels to be offered a PSC scholarship in teaching, but I rejected it then. I am now almost 40. I am just wondering if I will stand a chance due to my age. I also wonder if my rejection about 20 years ago would have any negative impact on my application?

Is there anyone who is in a similar situation who could share any insights or views? 😄

A friend of mine has a similar story, only that she did take up the scholarship (degree program), but decided to quit after the 1st year, as she was offered to do science, where she has no passion in. She applied to teach again, using her 'A' levels results and was accepted. She did her DipEd and now teaching in a primary school. So I think that if you're really passionate about teaching, give it a try 🙂

Thanks to all for your views and sharing of experience.
😄
:thankyou:

At the Australian International School careers page, it is stated the pay for a preschool teacher with a Bachelors Degree starts from $8400 onwards. Interesting that they added applicants with a diploma from SEED institute or other non-tertiary institutions need not apply. They must have been flooded with applicants who hold a diploma in preschool education.

Now still the same, but online submission. Friend with teaching experience, but not local grad. Rejected many times. Never got called up for interview. Another no experience, but local grad with good grades. Got relief job.

I guess qualifications mean alot to MoE.

To MoE, Knowledge to teach > Experience in teaching.

But relief teaching is actually easy, it’s more of bonding with students, Q&A sessions, get the class to settle down, focus on studying, OTOT or even mini-quiz time. U don’t really require to be highly-educated, just a few simple question of primary/secondary school.

I won’t recommend relief teacher to actually teach a few topics because students may not adapt to new teaching style. Furthermore, once relief teacher is being replaced by original teacher, students have to revert back to original method taught.

Anyone knows how’s the salary of relief teaching being calculated?
