ps: Way2go, was your spelling error deliberate? :evil:
U know me too well to look for nuances in my posts don’t u? 😉
Hookwink as in ‘going in with eyes open to be duped with a bait’ wld hv given it a different meaning as opposed to hoodwink –“ to be duped with covered eyes” , wouldn’t it ? :evil:
In dis case, it was just a misspelling on my part – no hidden msg. 😂

PG and 2E kids?

:scratchhead:

2E = twice exceptional (anything giftedness + learning disabilities)
PG = profoundly gifted (1 in a million, IQ>152)
EG = exceptionally gifted (1 in 100,000, 145<IQ<152)
GEP = take out those very gifted in specific areas, and then take 1 in 100 of the remainder. (IQ >120)
HA = High Ability student not necessarily gifted (IQ>120)
Mensa = 2 in 100 (IQ>120)
MG = moderately gifted (130<IQ<138)
HG = highly gifted (138<IQ<145)

Those IQ are measured on the WISC IV scale, which has a full score of 160. If you use SB-5, they are about 5 points lower with max also at 160. BTW, those are not what MOE use. They have their own unknown measurement, so if your child presents 159, they will still look at behaviour, social, principal's recommendations etc etc. In some countries I know, once you reach a certain IQ, you qualify for intervention and assistance. So, like what we discussed, who gets what benefits is not subject to the child's ability on universal scale, but an unknown scale used by GEB.

Ok, that said, acceleration is another thing in most countries. For acceleration, a lot of other factors are taken into consideration before any kind (especially radical acceleration) are allowed. In Singapore, a max of 4 years are allowed, that is if you satisfy this unknown measurement of EG. Hope this explains.

LKY's grandson is 140 and asperger's, making him 2E, and also highly gifted, he went to Singapore American School.

IMO? GEP's syllabus does not even meet the needs of MG (maybe) and HG, much less the EG and PG, but that's not the point. I keep forgetting. :stupid:

Sigh. Good for him. What about the rest with no permission and no money...but such is Life.
IMO? GEP's syllabus does not even meet the needs of MG
another mum said the same to me as well. Said it was just snippets of watered down information from higher levels, not much inquiry and feeding of eager minds. How do very gifted children like Sheldon Tan (did I get the name right? The one who was accelerated) take to it then, I wonder.

Iq scores? I don’t think so. The GEP tests are not internationally standardized IQ tests, though they have their own EP to administer tests if they want to. From what I know, everything is confidential, parents and third party psychologists will learn very little from them. But 2ppaamm will be in a better position to advise u on this.

The boy you mentioned was accelerated one year even before he started formal school on the back of an IQ test, has GEP parents, and the grandfather (a doctor btw) worked to his bones to get him where he is. Not every family has that kind of support. He has many things to keep him very busy, including his music which he drills day and night. Only time can tell how he will turn out and I believe this is one gem for GEP. Nice to watch!

If you think to grill a child at P3 for GEP is too early and ruthless, there are some who know to do it before they learn their ABCs. It is about who has the knowledge, the power and the money. Such is life... 😉

e eldest wan?
Special provision was made for him to enter SAS when MOE's general policy was all SG children must enter d SG school system, even if dyslexic.
d eldest wan has some learning disability, took his time thro' sec school n graduated fr NUS.

Don't know which one leh :? it was a LKY speech published by SAS that was already taken down in recent months, him thanking the school for helping his grandson. Some say it is LHL's son, some say LHY's son. I don't know. You can still surf out some sites that quoted him.

Here, I quote:
Addressing the Singapore American School (SAS), MM Lee said: \"I also had a grandson who could not fit into our schools. He had an IQ of 140, so he is not a stupid boy. But he was having trouble. His brother was scoring and he was not because he was dyslexic and he had to learn two languages - English and Chinese.

\"So, the Education Ministry allowed him to opt out of the system. We did not have the specialist teachers to cater for people like him. He joined the SAS and at your school, your teachers helped him cope with his dyslexia and in the process restored his self esteem and confidence, and he's done well. Your staff support the American community and they have brought benefits to Singaporeans. Thank you.\"
