Hie,
I am new here & would like to find out more about Jelic for my 4 years old.
Any information which you can share with me on the teaching of Jelic would be much appreciated.
Anyone able to share their experience with centres at Tiong Bahru, Orchard.....
hie,
only certain branches have jelic prg. TB br does not have jelic, only mpm.
orchard br is located at orchard plaza, the bldg houses tailor shops, beauty salons, wat appears to be nightclubs & so on...... i am not comfortable with the environment (i doubt teacher would be able to bring the kids to the toilet in the event they need toilet visit) also, plc is very very small, partition further into 2 rooms..... i visited the plc on early sat morning, bldg was quiet. being a sat, classes were quite busy & teacher seems to be quite hurried, overheard a teacher saying \"quick, choose a color... red or xxxx\" however the lady whom i spoke to, Yan Ling was able to explain to me quite clearly what the prog was about, despite the distraction of students coming in for lessons. She came across as a patient & nice teacher. However Yan Ling does not teach the weekday jelic class which i was interested in.... -
Hello!
Would like to share my experience. Son is 5 yrs old (K1). Initially when we went for the assessment, the teacher said he had to start from basic. I was surprise but later convince by the teacher as there is alot of right brain training thing. During the first mth, the worksheet for him is too easy till my son said…EASY BEESY. Thus, I called up the teacher and they agreed to skip few modules. On our 2nd mth, the worksheet given is still easy!! He went to the class less than an hour to complete 2 booklets. Again, I called up the school and said is too easy for him.
Again, the teacher said: If tats the case, we will start him with K2 and pls do not request to skip any module in K2!
Am puzzled over this comment by the teacher.
Question:
1. Is your assessment good enough to judge the kid ability?
2. My son spent 2 mths doing the easy worksheet?? Am paying for that 2 mths? Is just the waste of our 2 mths spend learning nothing
**Pls note, once the teacher ordered the worksheet for next mth, you are not allowed to request to skip his level
3. Are we parents need to monitor our son regularly? What if I nvr monitor his progress?? I will be continuing paying for the fees and son learns nothing.
Any good Maths Enrichment class to intro? Kindly share with me.
Thanks. -
the instructor in the centre which I enrolled inform me that we give each other 3 mths for adjustments.
When I make inquiry at the initial stage, the instructor will advise my kid to put up his best performance for diagnostic test. As this will affect the level entry.
This is acceptable to me. Nothing wrong with the adjustment. -
Any feedback on the trainer for punngol and buangkok branch? mpm vs mighty math… Which one do you recommend??

I like MPM and think they have one of the better materials which are colourful and intriguing for the young. But that said, i think alot also depends on the centre/ teachers that teach the child. I have heard the teacher screaming at the child " Quickkkkk, why you sooo slow" in her broken Singlish and i was taken aback but DD said she was never recipient of that sort of treatment though it frightened her at first. To cut the story short, there’s no doubt that the materials are fantastic but i do think that the owner of the centre have to make abit of effort to create a more condusive environment and also having more professional teachers to teach the kids. Afterall, the fees aint exactly cheap (SGD 440/term)

Thanks becknat68 for your inputs. Which mpm center is your child attending ?

Hi all
I would like to get some advise how different is MPM versus Kumon. My girl is currently in Kumon and now she is in K1. She has been a consistent performer and is now doing subtraction. Recently, her K1 day school start introducing problem solving questions and she find them tough, she also started to feel stress over her maths homework and start to cry when she cant do them saying it is very diffcult and I am not sure if it is because of that which make her resistance in doing her Math homework including Kumon claiming its hard and lost interest.
I am getting really worried if she is under stress as she can cope with the the school syllabus and if Kumon doesnt cater to the ‘problem-solving’ skills she needs in school. I read in this forum there is MPM, so would like to find out more while I continue to monitor DD’s progress and talk to her teachers.
Would appreciate any advise. Thanks ! -
MPM fees $440 /per term (12 weeks) or some RC/CC centre will charge $155/pm. It is still cheap compare to some Chinese tuition centres which is only 10 weeks. Some science enrichment even $680 for 10 weeks. English enrichment even $750 for 10 weeks. Piano class $265 for 4 lesson only 1 hr lesson.
Conclusion MPM fee is still reasonable. Opt for monthly fee lor. The centre should have 2 options to choose. -
There is a mpm maths outlet near my place, block 510 Bedok North St 3. They say they are the franchise of mpm math. Anyone had any idea ? Just want to check before I enrolled my girl. The fees is $440 for 12 sessions. But have to pay $50 for assessesment ( include bag and stationery). Isn’t assessment free if we decide to enrolled? Plus $50 deposit( refundable) . Anybody can help clarify? Thanks

LittlePrinz:
Hi there
I just enrolled my girl in MPM. I noticed that they have a few different trainers. May I ask how to out if the trainers are certified? I want to make sure they are not just any part timers trying to fill in when the actual trainers are not available. Any adv is much appreciated. Thank you.
was this question answered? I'm also very curious to know. The trainers look as if they came over from work, hence i'm worried if they are really certified. the fees arent exactly cheap, hence if they did not use qualified trainers, :faint:
