If your gal is well adjusted at haig gals then i will suggest stay out unless u have other reason.I am also interested in any further info regarding whether Haig Girls' School is better than Ngee Ann Pri?
P3 daughter is at Haig Girls' School and is well adjusted.
P1 son is at Xinghua Primary which is far for us to drive so we've put him on the waiting list at Ngee Ann Primary.
Have also placed my P3 HGS daughter on the NAPS waiting list, but wonder if that is really a good choice to transfer from HGS to NAPS?!!!
Can i ask you haig gals how is the race like? -

I think you shouldn't transfer your girl out of HGS if she is well-adjusted.. imagine she has to adapt to a new environment, make new friends again.. Do you have any feedback on HGS? I'm just wondering about the racial mix there.. appreciate if you could share on this. Thanks!I am also interested in any further info regarding whether Haig Girls' School is better than Ngee Ann Pri?

...thanks for your advice. Actually, we have 4 children. The younger two are K1 and N2, girl and boy respectively. Guess that's why we have this idea of moving to a school under one roof; however, by all means if HGS is better or the same, then it may not be worth it to move my daughter to NAPS? For some reason though, I get the impression that NAPS somehow carries a reputation for better Chinese and my daughter is taking Mandarin. But, hmmm....I compared PSLE results that I could find today and interestingly, HGS quality passes in English and Chinese were consistently and strikingly higher than NAPS. That's comparing quality passes for 2009 and 2010. Seems NAPS scores better in Math. A friend told me maybe it's because HGS is an all girls' school as girls tend to be better with language. ??? What do you think?

Where can I find the HGS 2011 PSLE results? I couldn't find any.
And the 2009 and 2010 results I did find were only \"quality passes.\" Should I probe for mainstream results for HGS? Is that a better picture for comparison?
....And to answer the question about racial mix at HGS:
5% foreigners and the rest I'd guess 35-40% Chinese, 35% Malay, and 20-25% Indian.
Thanks for any other insights. -
I am also considering which school is better for my daughter, Ngee Ann or Haig Girl.
I found the PSLE result of 2011 from Haig Girl’s website when I checked it in the end of last year.
I made a comparison for the last two years.
Haig Girl’s passed rate of Express stream and Chinese(A*-A) is better than the one of Maha Bodhi(SAP School) which I wanted to send my girl to.
I gave up the school since they do not have Parent Volunteer and I am staying out of 1km.
Haig Girl is better in PSLE results, but I also have the second child, it is a boy and I prefer coeducational school .
I wonder what points should I put in the priority to decide the school.
<2011> NgeeAnn - Haig Girl - CHIJ( Katong)
Express Stream 67% - 83% - 67%
English (A*-A) \t52% - 63% - 71%
Chinese (A*-A) 78% - 96% - 79%
Math (A*-A) 54% - 38% - 42%
Science (A*-A) 47% - 45% - 57%
<2010> NA HG CHIJ
Express Stream 65%- 86% - 66%
English (A*-A) 48%- 64% - 69%
Chinese (A*-A) 75% - 94% - 74%
Math (A*-A) 53% - 53% - 46%
Science (A*-A) 47% - 56% - 40% -
if you can obtain mean score for the 3 schools:-
NgeeAnn, Haig Girl, CHIJ (Katong), that'll indicate how the cohort batch perform.
average / mean score is the answer.
Quality passes provided also good - because indicate which subject(s) the school weak / strong in.
If school weak in a particular subject, parents can help child work harder in that particular subject.
Ngee Ann is co-ed, your son can go there.
between the 2 all girls school based on above results, Haig girls perform better than CHIJ (Katong) in languages but lost out in Maths and Science. IJ also a mission school. Between languages and Maths and Science, which more important for your child, to do better in ?
both schools should also seek various ways to explore - how to improve the subjects they are weak in ? perhaps can seek help from those schools that are very strong in areas which they are weak in, receive guidance and learn from such schools (example: MGS). Learn from MGS ? Schools in goodwill can help one another to improve.
MGS Science, Maths v strong, languages too:-

above results evident that NOT all schools are the same.
The Quality passes results indicated that some schools are stronger in certain subject(s) than others. -

Called Ngee Ann Pri today and asked for their avg/mean score for 2011 PSLE. They reported to me:if you can obtain mean score for the 3 schools:-

above results clearly indicate that NOT all schools are the same.
The Quality passes results already indicate that some schools are stronger in certain subject(s) than others.
\"avg T-score was 201
top score was 268.\"
HGS asked me to call back tomorrow so I hope to share then.
However, is the T-score the same as the avg/mean score that you mentioned?
Thanks. -
Hi,
My P2 son is now in Red Swastika School. Here is my personal view of our past year experience:
1. Homework - As Red Swastika School is a SAP school, it means that your child will be under Higher Chinese starting from P1. Due to that, please expect more Chinese homework compared to other school. The quality of Chinese homework is superb. If your child can cope, he or she is a notch higher when compared with those kids of his age.
2. Culture - The values taught and impart is a school-wide effort. It is not solely up to the teacher but the school recognised the little act of kindness a student does. They reinforce the 小朋友, 小主人,小先生.
小朋友 - Responsibility, Honesty
小主人 - Respect
小先生 - Helpfulness, Teamwork
3. Good Administrative System
Parents are well informed in advance of the activities to expect. For news that can be announced termly, we will be informed so that we can plan and prepare for our child’s care option when the school is closed due to school’s event. Even for holiday homework, the school consolidate all information and send out as one letter to all.
4. CCA
There are a total of 21 CCA for the child to choose from. With such a wide variety, a child is given an opportunity to select his area of interest. I feel that it is not easy to run a school with so many CCAs, but Red Swastika School recognises the importance to develop a child.
5. Great teachers in Red Swastika School. My son’s Chinese teacher is one of them (Ms Tan Zhiling). I have not seen a teacher so dedicated in her work. She will bother to create and laminate, personalised lots of different cards for praising, encouragement, festivals etc. I cannot imagine doing this for a class of 28. My child is very motivated with all these praises.
These are my personal experience and views. -
Red Swastika need to ballot within 1 km for P2C… and maybe P2B as well.
It is already known to be a popular school… Unless one is an alumni, reading those praises is not very meaningful to them in the decision to choose a school. -
