actually, CHIJ (Katong) Convent is not bad.
only thing is that KC girls tend to communicate, speak more often in English than Chinese (may be weak). So do handle & take care of the Chinese part.

have a friend who years ago, she purposely shift less than 1 km to MGS (Bukit Timah), to try her balloting luck. She desired so much for her beloved eldest daughter to enter MGS. She wanted MGS so badly ! In her heart - she only lay eyes on MGS; nothing else !
unfortunately, she failed in balloting:- both Phases 2B and 2C. She was utterly disappointed for weeks in a stretch - locked herself in a room, keep grumbling, murmuring, complaining to God her disappointment, her complaint(s), her tears ... \"Oh God! Why didn't you let my girl enter MGS ? If only, if only by divine luck intervention, You draw her name out ....\" Back then, she couldn't fathom the reason Why ? In the end, her daughter got into CHIJ Katong Convent. But she wasn't happy. Back then, CHIJ KC wasn't her ideal chosen one.
today, her daughter just sat for some P6 PSLE papers.
In the recent past few months when DSA (Direct Secondary School Admission) results were released for direct entry into 2013 Secondary 1 cohort batch, her daughter was in fact offered not one, but a few DSA choices from a few Secondary schools. Now so many schools want her daughter, desire her ! They like her, saw the potential in her girl, want to groom her. She is from Mainstream, not GEP. The following schools offered her DSA into 2013 Sec 1 entry.
- MGS (Bukit Timah) Secondary
- CHIJ St Nicholas Secondary
- Cedar Secondary
- National Junior College (NJC)
now with hindsight after spending 6 long years in CHIJ Katong Convent -
my friend had finally understood why God had planted her girl into CHIJ KC, and what it mean when God state in:-
i)
Jeremiah 29:11 -
\"For I know the plans I have for you,\" declares the LORD, \"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future .\"
ii)
Isaiah 55:9 -
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.
Because it was in CHIJ Katong Convent primary during the 6 long years there that the school .... groom her daughter up, not just academically but all rounder. Her girl was given many opportunities to shine in leadership position(s), chairing this committee, chairing that, leading this activity, leading that, etc. That made her stand out, made her outstanding ! -

Thanks for all the hard data you shared comparing PSLE results for CHIJ, HGS, and NAPS. So far, we have left my P3 girl at HGS. My son is in P1 at NAPS and is very happy. We have a daughter who will be in P1 in 2014 and a son who will be in P1 in 2015. Pretty much resolved to let the preschoolers go to NAPS as it makes things easier logistically. However, for our P3 daughter at HGS, we are still sometimes wondering if we should take the plunge to NAPS and be under the same roof. Then a friend recently asked why we didn't consider CHIJ Katong, closer to NAPS than HAIG; however, I came back to the data again and it still points to HGS being the best choice and not making good sense to transfer her...
With this in mind, I started to search for such data as the percentage of students achieving agg of 250 and above on the PSLE.
So far, I found:
year CHIJ / NAPS
2011 11.45% / 7.33%
2010 9.26% / 7.59%
2009 5.80% / 6.20%
Searching for the same data for HGS. Anyone happen to know the percentage of HGS students scoring agg of 250 or higher on PSLE?

Sorry for my late follow-up, but I did receive a phone call from HGS some time back with the requested data...how many students scored 250 and above on the PSLE and how many students were in the cohort. Thus, the resulting percentages below:
HGS
2011....16/174= 9%
2010....23/144= 16%
2009....23/162= 14%
year CHIJ / NAPS
2011 11.45% / 7.33%
2010 9.26% / 7.59%
2009 5.80% / 6.20%
....this data for CHIJ & NAPS was taken from their websites.
ALSO good to note that HGS will be temporarily relocating to a 'Holding School' during their renovation works which will be for two years, starting January, 2015. The assigned holding school is Bedok South Secondary. For me, it's further :frustrated: but surely for some, it may be closer. :rahrah:
My P3 daughter is well adjusted at HGS and my P1 son is equally well-adjusted at NAPS.
So we are likely to leave our oldest daughter at HGS and prayerfully let our younger two follow our son into NAPS for eventual convenience of them being at one school. And the NAPS affiliation with Ngee Ann Sec might just be a huge blessing in the end!!
