Hi,Hi coolit,
Do you know if teacher mae-ann, elaine or martin is teaching the pri 1 prepatory class?
At the amk side, I know the teacher is Elaine for P1 preparatory class. -
Hi Coolit,
My daughter is in P3, i’ve tried out TAS last yr, stopped her early this yr due to heavy sch-workload. Wanted to put her back but there is no vacancy now.
Btw, what is this library system abt?
My daughter was at the Singpost branch whereby it’s not a permanent location (according to the teachers), they rented 1 unit for their lessons. The teachers will bring the materials (ie. worksheets) for that day’s lesson only, no storybooks the kids can borrow. -
hi purple05,
library system where they loan kids a book for 2 weeks. They did this a while ago, stopped and now restart. If you are a keen library user/your child is a keen reader, no worries. I usually just go borrow from library whatever DS likes to read. So far am not participating in this ‘loan a book’ becos the ones they have, DS already read before. -
Hi purple05,
They restarted their library system. Now they have changed the system a little.
In the past, the children in one class used to borrow different books. Now, most
of the children borrow the same book. The teacher told me it was done this way
so that the teacher can quiz the class together about the book. In the past, it was
harder to quiz as it will take up a lot of class time asking the children about the
different books. I have friends in the East branch. They say they get to borrow books
as well. -
Thanks for the replies.
ok! I personally find that it's quite difficult to get the books from libraries recc by TAS (in the thread - Storybooks that help kids to write better).
So it would be good if these ctrs hv books for the kids, usually these books r well-selected
Anyway, TAS is now full at singpost branch.
Btw, anyone tried Education Lab (Singpost basement, next to NTUC)? -
Hi purple05,
My dd was in same position as your kid. We travelled very far to AMK every week. In the end, the distance was killing DH and me so we stopped. But could not find a suitable centre so this term, we just started again. Good thing for us, we managed to get a slot in the same day under the same teacher. We were one of the last to get in for that class. Now my dd enjoys her classes even more. It seems like they have tweaked their methods to suit the class as the class change. The students can grasp faster so they now teach them how to put themselves in the writer's position and imagine the fear, the silence, the darkness etc and come up with their own descriptions. The teacher also switched off the light to get the children to imagine the darkness. My dd could not stop talking about it.
Which books are you talking about? I know some of the titles that TAS recommended. I could find some of them in the library. But some like books by Chris Ryan, the survivor series I could not find. Maybe should go to certain libraries, some libraries stock more childrens books. -
Mayb I shd call the ctr again.
I know of a shop doing book rentals - The Reading Place, their range is wide & books are new/in good condition. Used to hv an outlet at Anchorpoint (will be closed this mth), only left Siglap outlet. -
For library books, use the NLB catalogue to search where they may be and whether a book is in stock. Some libraries are good in children’s title’s, others are simply lacking. If the distance is too far, I will just reserve it (cost $1.55 per book) and collect it at the library nearest to me. Figure I save more this way than to travel by car/bus/mrt to that library.

Usually I go to T. Payoh for Eng books & NEX for Chinese books
