Find that the children nowadays are less creative than our time. Do not know is it they are now playing things that are designed by others like pc games or watching too much cartoons. Not like old times, no money to buy so much toys, no cartoon DVDs, therefore, created and made our own toys. Also nowadays, children are staying back for remedial or supplementary lessons or after school time attend tuition and enrichment classes, so no time to be creative or have lost their creativity as no time to explore and do some experiment on their own.
I remembered I made my own paper dolls and created some story lines to play with them. In additional, I made some snacks in the kitchen for my family during my primary school times in the afternoon when I had nothing much to do. -
My elder DS one day came home and told me that his friend was made to do one whole assessment book a day. I was shocked and wonder its true a not???

Some parents do that lei nothing surprising my DS classmate does 35pages of each subject a day and he told me mummy lucky u never do that to do me if not i sure will go crazy. -
For p6, I'll just keep my mouth shut. But if its below that, I find that its scary!!!
Won't parents suggest something else for the child to do instead of that. If the child is happy with that, I have no say too.
I hope I won't be crazy like that! Hope the parents do also train their child in other areas beside academic and also have some free time to do the things they like. :scared: -

happened to my sister's friend's kid a few years ago. The poor boy was in P4 but had to do P5 and P6 assessment books after finishing the day's homework and designated P4 exercises given by his mother plus his tuition classes homework. My sister said his study table was full with tall piles of assessment books and he would have to stay and complete certain no. of pages before being allowed to come out and take a break/meal. He scored well in his PSLE, managed to go to a top school but by sec 2, he told his parents he lost interest in studying and stopped going to school from that day onwards despite his parents' scoldings and his school's intervention.
Now he stays at home alone and spent his time playing computer games and staying in his room the entire day. He was referred to psychologists/psychiatrists etc but would not take the medication nor attend any counselling. His parents have given up hope on him and basically waiting for him to be enlisted and hope he would come to his senses. -

a classic example is not good to pusj our kids like that they will really give up on everything one fine day not because they have no interest to study but they had enough of all the pushing.Pris.tang:

I think many parents tend to make up for it by letting their children much more free time and fun activities during school holidays. In a way it helps. But I have heard of schools giving out too much homework or classes during the school holidays.Find that the children nowadays are less creative than our time. My kids do that. Draw and cut out the various characters and even with costume change. Even write up a story and issue us tickets to watch their puppet show. Haha.
They have no lack of toys but will revert to these 'simple' way of playing as they find it more engaging and fulfilling. And along the way, my maid will be roped in to play with them as well. -
My dd is in p6. she is an average student and in the top class of a neighourhood school. She came back yesterday with her science mork paper, answer key is given but the teacher has no time to go through it. I was :scared when I browsed through her paper. They are tested beyond their level…poor kids nowadays. We, parents, must do something!
