If the family of the reckless and irresponsible Ferrari driver had any conscience, they shld offer financial help to the family of the cab driver. I still get the chill down my spine when I recalled the video of the shocking accident. Such reckless driving with no regards to other lives on the road...such selfish inconsiderate action shld be publicly condemned! But now that he was dead, no legal action will be taken against him. Who can the family of the poor cab driver turn to for compensation?

The letter from the China embassy is addressed to all their people here....to observe the laws of the host country. Shouldnt there be one addressing the Ferrari family ? Is it going to be 'let case close, and forget it' ?
The driver is gone. So is the taxi driver.
The govt has taken steps to make sure the family is well taken care of. Shouldnt the family of the reckless driver make some form of apology and compensate ? Unless they push all responsibility away, and claim they are also suffering and want govt to sympathize them.

It should be possible to sue estate of F driver for permanent loss of have to earnings of sole breadwinner. Both families of Japanese lady and taxi driver can do that.

Yes, it is possible for them to sue F family.
But need to initiate court case fast within first 6 months, from date of accident.

            example:
Accident victim awarded $360,000 in damages

The sum, awarded by High Court assistant registrar Colin Seow, was for pain and suffering, loss of future earnings as well as past and future medical treatment costs.

going forward from today's May 2012 horrific accident -
Today the culprit of 2 innocent deaths is Ma Chi (taxi driver and Japanese girl), tomorrow maybe is .... someone else (another show off guy), from China.

going forward, to our Republic of Singapore, how does :-

              a) China Embassy intend to help Singaporean Mr Cheng & Japanese girl claim compensation damages charge(s),

              b) China Embassy handle similar future cases - should one day in future, somebody else from China cause similar accident, likewise again ?

What I think is that the family will just pack up and leave. In China, so many people too difficult to search for them. Fingers crossed though. Sigh.

hope not too but judging from the comments his family made online asking why people do not feel sad for his untimely death and insulting those who cannot afford to buy ferrari has no right to point fingers at them as fu er dai, I doubt there is any repentance on their part.
Still, give them the benefit of doubt and see what follow up they will take.

The wife is heavily pregnant...don't think she can fly. If she gives birth here, the baby is not entitled to citizenship right?
Freeze family assets and their accounts first. Since China has responded by sending out a letter to their citizens, then it should take another step by ensuring this Ferrari family compensates the victims.

can anyone just "suka suka" demand for compensation and expect the authorities to just act based on netizens’ demand for compensation?

believe there is no issue with the need to compensate - if the liability has been established - but it has to be done through legal channel and due process. singapore is a rule based and law abiding country

if any authority can just act based on netizens’ demand, what makes singapore different from other mafia countries ?

hate to say this - but - who knows - Ma Chi may not be at fault ? it could be the Ferrari that has malfunctioned and the driver could not control it - just like the famous Lexus crash in US - lost speed control – that caused Toyota to recall millions of vehicles worldwide in recent years ?

without establishing the truth, it is dangerous to start demanding … even though prima facie the Ferrari crashed into the taxi …

just like a plane crash - not every time is a malfunction or a pilot suicide … until the truth is established …
