I am disappointed, very disappointed that such vital info cannot be revealed.
Was told that heads will roll if compo marks are told. -

I am a bit disappointed that we have descended to vulgarity. And Intermezzo (this may stimulate another long emotive post from you which I won't know how to respond to), I had not expected that you would ride on the coat tails of vulgarity or someone else's fit of aggression. One can respect Becontented, Funz, Buds, Wonderm... who write and make sense... even if I don't always agree with them on every point.
and when vks2010 starts to substitute the i in important keywords with an exclamation mark, we can be pretty sure he means what he says.. :rotflmao:Intermezzo:

saying it is forced by the system or policy is total bullshit
don't tell me those schools / principals who manage to get individual teachers for each subject are running afoul of MOE policy ?
bullsh!t!
have enuf friends who are teachers / HOD / principals / master teacher / directors in MOE to say it is never a policy
I am glad Beanbear (or any of those who support systemic change to education) did not see fit to respond to vulgarity with more vulgarity or KSP will degenerate into a forum of un-civil discussion. If this happens, civil people will concede defeat and leave the field to you. But I am not sure such behavior will convince those sitting on the fence. As for me, I will always lose (and unashamedly too) to excesses of emotion and vulgarity because I am unprepared to go that way [/quote]Hi Chen,
:goodpost: I remember I read in another thread that 'he' claim himself to be a civil person
Chen, I appreciate your effort to write these posts, providing opinions and very good suggestions to improve our education system. please please please continue to do so :please:
There are parents here who are very lucky to have good partnership with their children's school, have supportive and competent teachers /principals. Good for them! For those who do not, and are still going through the pain together with their children, shall find ways to help the precious ones. At the same time, parents who support systemic change to our education, please do write, post, feedback to MOE. And if these still fall on deaf ears, the next GE is definitely worth waiting for. -
Actually my DD also do not know her score. All I am told is below average & I dun know what is the average score even. However, after the whole PTM, I learnt from another mother she pushed hard & managed to find out her dd score.
Maybe I never try hard enough. -

Perhaps this is something for MOE to inform the schools to stop the practice of Category 3 and Category 4. Personally, Category 2 is already effective to avoid unnecessary queries from parents. It has been effective for our school so far and I do not hear teachers being \"harassed\" by parents with queries. I suppose if the paper is shown to the child, the child will take the ownership to understand their weaknesses and strengths, so there is nothing much to hear from the parents. -
Sadly, dd is in a school that belongs to category 3. When I queried about this, I was given the impression that this is common practice in other schools. However, I am not overly disturbed by this. If the purpose of seeing the paper is to learn from mistakes, can do so with practice compo during lesson time lor. If it is to fight for marks, then it is a different story lah.
However, if the parent feel very strongly about the issue, the school/P/teacher should be prepared to release the paper for review. I believe most parents are reasonable people.
Category 1 is the ideal.

Just wondering, shouldn’t MOE make it compulsory for ALL schools to reveal all the marks for P6? This way, we parents will know where the weak areas are and how to work from there. Prob is I cannot compose an email to convince the minister. Can anyone help if he/she agrees to my suggestion?

Just wondering, do you know the components marks that make up English marks? If you know how much is Oral, Written paper, Listening Compre, is it not possible to compute the compo marks?Actually my DD also do not know her score. You will need more than just a well drafted e-mail. Much much more.
I need someone has great persuasive power to draft an email, so that none will be left behind (if possible). -
