Hi
Want to check out comments abt these preschool mentioned below. Thinking of enrolling my bb when she turns 18 mth
1. Lorna Whiston at Winchester
2. St James
3. Maris Stella
4.Chiltern House -
Is there a school bus provided to chiltern house?
-
hi, my daughter attended chiltern (crescent) for 2.5 years (from N1 to mid of K1). good in my view as well - vocal, confidence and able to express view well from the foundation built in chiltern.
However, we transferred her to Pat's Schoolhouse from mid of K1 onwards for following reasons:
1. My daughter's grasp of mandarin is weak. Chiltern may not allow maximum exposure as the chinese teacher comes in only during the scheduled slot from K1 onwards whereas Pat's offer both English and chinese teacher in the class at all times.
2. Pat's offer enrichment program after the typical half day session - they have different program every day e.g. chinese speech & drama, english speech & drama, music, cookery, art & craft, and fast track kids. So this is a good balance between half a day program versus a full day program.
And i super KS, my daughter still attend enrichment program outside her chiltern or pat's program - well, she requested for them
she is doing ICR, chinese speech & drama (more of getting her comfortable in mandarin), ballet.
And yes, there is schoolbus that ferry the kids to and fro. you can check with the school on that. my daughter has been taking their schoolbus since three years of age.
all the best in your pre-school hunting

Hi Agnes Mum, thanks for sharing your experience. May I know what is ICR? Did she attend the Chinese Speech and Drama at Julia Gabriel? I am also considering whether I should send my son to the Julia Gabriel Playnursery till he’s 4yrs old, then enroll him in another school for K1 and K2. Heard that there is a difference between the quality of teachers in Chiltern vs Julia Gabriel, but I am not sure if it is true though as I’ve not met the teachers personally. Once again, thanks for your sharing.

hi babyz4,
ICR denotes I Can Read - many of my daughter's classmates are in that program and that prompted her to join as well. And the basic reason she quoted just sell - \"She wants to read her story book!\" ha
For the chinese speech and drama class, she has been attending children's art theater @ Kembagan Plaza since age of 2 (after pulling her out from Tien Hsieh). That school (in my opinion) makes learning mandarin more fun
I heard much about JG nursery program too. tot it was good but has long wait list. cannot compare much about quality of teacher at JH vs Chiltern. However they are all very well qualified and trained. I know some of their (chiltern) speech and drama teachers were previously from JG and they are great!
Maybe visit both schools and have a chat with them (teachers). that way, you can judge better. -
Mummies, can share whether Chiltern House prepare our kids well enough for P1 curriculum? Thanks

I don’t know how Chiltern House is now, but when my child was there years ago, she loved it. The classes were small and attention was paid to each child. They could express themselves and were heard. I liked that the programme included drama classes and good Chinese foundation.
At N1 & N2, I think it’s more important for a child to learn socialization skills, to play with others, to respect others. And that is something they pick up from the teachers. In large classes, sometimes the teacher doesn’t hear what a child is saying. The child picks that up and over time may think that his/her opinion doesn’t count.
Again, this was many years ago, so I don’t know what Chiltern House is like now. -
