      ksi:
Ya \"me thinks\" he is indeed gifted in reading the psychology of parents' \"kiasu\" mindset, are they sure his diploma is not in psychology?

I don't think one needs to be a genius to know how much parents hope their children turn out to be geniuses πŸ™‚

I disagree. The truly gifted liars are those that lie and get away with it πŸ™‚

But seriously, what is the minimum due diligence that parents should do with enrichment providers before parting with their money?

It is easy for us to say that why are smart parents not so bright when it comes to parting with their money for tuition.

Whether kids are not doing well in sch or they are already very smart, parents always want the best for them. This is esp so when their kids are not doing well. When they go online and they see the various adverts for tuitions/special programmes and the various claims of successes, particuarly the online testimonials, the vast majority would want to try if they can afford the fees. To many parents, money bec secondary when it comes to their kids education.

No matter how smart these parents are, it is frequently difficult to verify the tuition claims unless they have tried it. Of course numerous forums such as KSP provide excellent feedback and raise general awareness.

In any programme, parents have to minitor closely the kids progress and determine if what they have learnt is commesurate with the money spent.

It’s disgusting how one can walk away unscathed and even pitied when he has the intention to cheat (and has cheated) so many of their money because of false claims.

I think unless those parents choose to sue, nothing may happen to them. Guess those parents may not want others to know that they have indeed engaged his services and implicate their own kids.

right from the beginning, he already decide to con. Con not just over 1 aspect, but many areas … until reporter go and dig into his background, liaise with NUS officials, with MOE, etc. Everyday he tell lies to parents, eyes unblinking.

for how many years did Ong manage to cheat many gullible parents successfully, before he was finally caught this time round ? He must be rich liao, ripping off so many parents ! so easy for him to just say "close the case" & walk off like that ?

right now, besides Ong, who else like him in the Education market, also giving GEP tests ? reporter ought to target next fellow like him.

He didn't repent after being asked to leave from NUH, and from another private organisation due to similar integrity issues.

Not very sure the exact year he shift his focus from conning patients & their family members to kiasu parents.

I'm glad that he's finally exposed.

Maybe through this, he can finally wake up & change for the better.

did he fake it ? did he put up a fake degree scroll to show ?

it is very much caveat emptor (many will not agree with me on this), and nobody checked on his boasting (invitation to treat) and he did deliver the promised services (provided the hours of services) and some of them did get into GEP....and can anyone prove that their kid would have gotten into GEP without Kelvin Ong courses ? He very well could argue that due to his courses the kids got in....though the practice questions may look mundane but at least he could claim the motivational aspect which boost the kids' confidence ... law suit ? tough fight !

I absolutely agree with you. It is caveat emptor. As long as we did not do due diligence in checking out the qualifications of service providers before we sign up, it is hard to go after them especially if they have fulfilled their part of the bargain.

The problem of embellishment of professional qualifications is not limited to this case. Kelvin Ong is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure there are some more.

So I ask again: What do parents think is the minimum set of information that we must obtain from the service providers before we trust their claims?

For private tutor, interview them like you would an employee. IC, certs, employment history, testimonials. If claim to be a teacher at whatever school, than show latest payslip. Possible?
