Watch! He gets away this time but then hor 暂草不除根,春风吹又生 。。。and he may 东山再起 venture into another tuition business or private home tuition by using another name again to con parents if there is still no verification of qualification practice here.

parents thinking of engaging the tutors should do the due diligence themselves

Let’s say I want to engage a private tutor who claimed to be ex-teacher of so-&-so school 5 years ago & has produced x & x students who scored A* in PSLE.

First, will there be a cert or letter from the Sch he/she taught in? If they claim ex-student info confidential … then???

Is it not important to question the ability of those students that scored A*? How can we determine how much of that \"A*\" was due to the tutor, and how much due to the prior knowledge of the students?

For private tutor, interview them like you would an employee. IC, certs, employment history, testimonials. If claim to be a teacher at whatever school, than show latest payslip. Possible?

If claim to be current teacher just need to go the sch website n check their staffs list ..most sch not only put name still have photo for u to match 🙂

This tutor has been interviewing the children by taking an ability test before accepting them. In this case, the ks parent would be thrilled that his child is selected. I don’t think he would dare ask for credentials and risk his chance.

well, if customer don't ask question, and just accept, who to blame ?

                    sleepyqueen:
Read this in asia1 this morning:

                    http://www.edvantage.com.sg/edvantage/features/people/1242026/Self_proclaimed_gifted_tutor_not_even_NUS_grad.html

🤷 why he wanna to fake so much false information.
Same reason as when one did a petty crime (shoplifting, stealing from family members at home), next time they get bolder, they steal from friends, then home break-ins, then bank robbery, etc.

So, PERHAPS - he started as a GEP tutor, got reasonably good response. Then he claims to be in the GEP program, next ACS, next NUS grad, etc, etc.

unfortunately, singapore is too small...if in other places, probably can drop of radar very quickly.

If the person is an ex-teacher, he/she should have a NIE grad cert \"Bachelor of Education\" or something.

Once i tried a \"ex-school teacher\" who claimed a lot of blah blah blah successes. I asked him to bring his NRIC and certs on the first lesson, he said he forgot. He told me he was 35 yrs old, but looked 55. He insisted to be paid per lesson (quite fishy). Anyway, he was \"sacked\" after the first lesson due to the fact that he told me he's 35 but i'm quite sure he looked at least 55.
