someone told me that if the child is scoring 80 marks range, can go onsponge.

if the child score above, no need to go
if too low, also cannot go

I find the lady from on sponge is not too friendly, anyway their timings does not suit me as well. How does Onsponge compared to JEI in terms of the worksheets, teachers, and the method of teaching? Does anyone know?

my girl has been wif JEI since Mar. tho the teachers are ok, the worksheets are colorful and challenging and grouped by problem type, i find that my girl still doesnt know how to analyse the questions. eg for problems on internal transfer, questions like : A has 10, B has 20, how much does B give A so that both have the same, vs another question, A has 10 and give away 5, B has 20 but bought

another 4, she cant tell the differnce and can apply the same method to both.
as in same model. so i realise what she is lacking is a thinkg framework to differentiate between problem sums and to recognise the concepts
eg most tuition centre include JEI just teach u how to do the problem sum but do they teach or stress the concept behind? prob not.

eg when i teach my girl, for questions eg: A has 134, b has 100, how much must A give B so that both hv the same, i dont tell her its 134-100 then divide by 2. i tell her: if u want both of us to have the same amt then u must SHARE THE SURPLUS (OR DIFFERENCE) btwn us EQUALLY.
no tuition centre has ever told her this concept tho all teach her how to solve the problem. so the next time when the question is A has 1344, B has 1000, she will again ask me how to solve. but after she understood the concept i told her, she is able to solve. so i am thinkg maybe i shd teach mysf.

jei is better for preschool. if u want to go jei for presch or pri math, the teachers at marine parade more experienced. those at amk seem very young, some look like teenagers. but i must stress again, tuition centre maynot
teach concepts. but onsponge may be different, i hvnt tried, but from their bk it seems they teach concepts.

Hi Bunny_mum, u can email Elsa at [email protected]

Hi alng, thanks for your advice. I agree with you that my girl need to brush up on her basic 😞 . After some consideration, I have decided not to sign up with Onsponge as it may not suit my child's need at this moment.

for basic math, best to get the simple math assessment bks to drill on concepts first.

                  hi,

had spoken to elsa. AMK branch only starts from p4 level. My DD is only in P3 so have to go to thomson. Dont have exact detail of AMK's location but is very near to Anderson Sec.

Cant decide shld i go for JEI or onSponge. As long as can help to bring up my DD's standard, I will be very pleased. Anyone can tell me more abt tes 2 centres?

                  TIA 😄

Hi 24hr-mum, if you ever sign up for Onsponge, please let me know the feedback. I am considering JEI/PSLE math but seems mixed feedback about this centre.

yes, i have tried JEI but for preschooler ok, but for pri sch math, the worksheets are relevant, challenging, colorful, but do have mistakes once in a while. for marine parade br i think ok. for amk br, the teachers seem young except for the owner…eh, u got to try urslf but i m quitting cos i dont see my girl able to self analyse the problem sums though there are improvements but still, the thinking is still lacking…

My boy attends both Andrew Er and Onsponge tuitions. Andrew Er teaches the regular class topics and if your child is fast, they will give you more challenging questions to work on. As for Onsponge, it's more on strategies learning. Personally I find Onsponge method quite easy to understand. My boy definately benifits from both, he did well for his recent SA2 🙂
