      FHP:
Any recommendation for Maths enrichment for P6?

you can try ezymathstudio, located at sembawang and toa payoh. My son has been attending their math tuition and has made considerable improvement (C to A). Highly effective and engaging enrichment program imo. Their differentiated learning programs (3 separate classes for P5 and 6) has really shown results, especially for weaker students. Feel free to have a chat with Hoe Ann 96779798 :?:

Hi, I am looking for a home Math tutor for my DD who is starting P1 this year. She attended Learning Lab Math in K2 and it was OK but they teach in a group setting with a fixed pace so do not really check if kids grasp the concepts. I can tell she doesn’t get some basic concepts. I live in the Tanglin/River Valley area. Any recommendations from parents with older kids with good experience most appreciated!

Does anyone know of private or group tutors who do math sessions, doing things like logic puzzles, math olympiad style questions, or walking through those type of qns you see in "Young Mathematician" magazine? Focus not so much on drilling or academic results, more on appreciation for the beauty and language of math.

I have checked out some of the suggestions on the Math Olympiad thread - but since they focus more on competition prep, their style seems to be more drilling…

P2 7YO daughter is passionate about everything mathematical - abstract questions, patterns, logic. Husband and I are too humanities-wired to help out!

Near Newton Bukit Timah area preferred.

              TIA.

My boy has attended both learning point and onsponge. Onsponge is definitely much better but maybe also because he was lucky to have a really caring teacher on Onsponge who motivates him. I see very limited improvement in him when he was in Learning Point.

I have nothing against TLL. But if your kids are weak in Maths, I don’t think TLL will be a good choice. I find that the curriculum stretches the kids so more suitable for those who are above average.

For tuition centres, generally PSLE Math, Onsponge, TLL are the bigger names and many colleagues send their children there. For me, i prefer to have private tuition for my 2 girls. Happen to chance on this page and yes, my girls share the same math tutor as @adelineb’s DD. And congrats to you, heard from chloe about your girl’s excellent performance and is it your younger girl who scored 100 at last year’s SA2? Heard something along this from my DDs.

Personally, i tried out different centres but i prefer engaging private tutor because of the personalised lesson plan and 1-1 focus. So far my girls are doing very well in math and really enjoy lessons with tutor. I think it is important to also strike a balance because some private tutors whom are current sch teachers can be extremely strict which makes it stressful for a child and eventually kills the love for the subject. I understand their desire to produce results but i think both the tutor and child also need to connect well so that they can work together. For my math private tutor, she is flexible with timings and can work extremely well with my girls. Have been with her for 2.5 years and will continue on. Rates are around $40/hr and 2x week lessons, slightly higher but i think its also very affordable and reasonable considering that my girls are doing very well. Do consider her but i understand that slots are limited partly because current students including myself have booked and paid for many additional lessons and also a surge in many new student requests.

For mummies with p5 children, make sure to push your child now so that psle year will not be too stressful also. There are impt concepts to master so make sure there is adequate practice from tutors and centres. Good luck!

Hi! May I enquire the qualification of this tutor Ms Chloe? Is she MOE trained? I am desperately looking for a tutor for my Son who is P5 this year. We tried group tuitions but he is not following well and I am thinking of switching him to a private 1-to-1 tuition.

I am lucky that I found Math centre that balances both systematic curriculum and good teaching. Happy to share but please PM me! Just realised it is quite under the radar and actually hope to keep it that way.
