Comparing Math Enrichment Programmes
-
Recently, I enrolled my son to this tuition program and he is enjoying the lessons a lot. He mentioned that the tutor explanation is very clear as they emphasis on the main/important concept and afterwards the tutor will teach him how to approach question in a faster manner/easier way. Tutor seems to be very experience as she can roughly gauge and predict questions. My son really enjoy it and will be willing to attend her lessons. Most importantly, she showed me result at an affordable price for almost all parents. Hope this help.

Primarily, you may want to assess if 1-1 will be a more effective approach for your child.
My DD will be in P3 next year, and she is not so strong in her math, want to find a good math tution center for her. After explorer here for a few days, i found below are some good center recommanded by parents. I don't know which one is better, hope can get more feedbacks from kiasuparents...Or any other good one I missed?
1. Math Hub
2. Global education
3. The learning lab
4. kumor
5. MPM (seems for small kids)
6. Enopi (seems for small kids)
Thanks a lot...

Eric

Personally, i do not have good experience with TLL Maths. TLL teacher was kind. But I don’t think DD enjoys the class plus the tons of worksheets kills her joy of learning. In the end, have to pay high price in P6 for a Maths tutor to catch up on the concepts in P5.
Luckily, DD is a high ability kid with above avg Maths capability. Managed to get an A* for PSLE.
I am not suggesting you to go for my DD Maths tutor. I think most importantly, the kid must enjoy the class and like the way the teacher teach.
My 2 younger ones are with a non-branded centre taught by ex-school teachers. Both doing well and enjoying their class. -
For all parents out there who are still actively looking for a tutor. I can recommend you my sons’ tutor who is a math and science specialist. Their results improved significantly and our tutor have been with us for a long time. Materials like papers are also given out to supplement learning.
If you need some info, our tutor have been producing As and A* students at psle and distinction students for O levels. Our tutor himself was formerly a Top O and A level student. He is dedicated, patient and adaptive. He is able to adjust his teaching styles to suit the needs of your child. After having to change tutors for my children, I can confidently tell u that he is unlike any others. His rates are significantly higher but worth the money because all my kids are getting As consistently in exams.
If you need the contact, pm me to get his details. For fees, pls check with him directly. -
Any good recommended Primary 1 Mathematics enrichment at Novena? United Square or Goldhill? Or Toa Payoh?

Goldhill and United Square are tuition hubs. Have friends who send their kids to TLL and Concept Math.

Yes, same experience as you. TLL is strong at lesson materials providing but not the coaching teacher. That is important and attractive to students in lower levels, but may not apply to higher level students. From my experience, it really depends on the teacher who is coaching your child. It is definitely more effective if the teacher is more experienced and your child likes the style the teacher teaches. Especially in higher levels.

For my DS in sec 3, after switching to small group tuition at another tuition center, coached by former IP school teacher, he improved significantly and sometimes got top score. He enjoys the class and becomes confident. That is far beyond my expectation. -
I have friends with kids weak in Maths. After getting 1 to 1 tutor for 2 to 3 years and 2 of them even had centre tuition on top of personal tutors… but still borderline pass or failed PSLE. Sigh…
I agree with many here that parents really must choose properly. Don’t choose centres because they are big names. If kids are weak in Math, then going to a centre that teaches advanced materials is not going to help kids’ exam results unless you are looking for enrichment and thinking skill and you plan to drill kids with assessment books yourself.
Personally I will not go to one-to-one tutor unless he/she is recommended by someone I know.
If I send to group tuition, I will only care about logistics and how good the teacher is. An effective teacher will help my kid improve no matter what.
Did anyone notice that some branded centre has TONS of recommendations on KSP but most of the posters joined KSP on the same day? ??? not just this thread but a few threads. -
