I think most importantly, the child must not dislike Chinese.

If I am not wrong it is a very short test. I think they will be given some pictures and they can choose to use any one of the pictures or all the pictures to write a short passage( about 10nlines or so). I think there are also a few mcq to do. Then lastly, they will be placed in small groups for the interview. There is no need to prepare for the test. The test is typically conducted on the last day of school, Wednesday.
Thanks for the insights.
Understand that the students might be informed today if they are selected for the test. -
Yes you are right; they were informed today.
Thanks for the pointers nicnac! -
dear TNS mummies & daddies
i am not sure whether to enrol my dd for TNS when her P1 registration rolls around next year. Currently she is eligible under 2A(1).
For starters, we are a predominantly english-speaking family, and my mastery of the chinese language is limited to ability to read/recognition of characters and converse lightly. I can read 80-90% of the chinese paper, even those chinese papers in the traditional form. But i am terrible at compositions, and as such i do not think i would be a good role model for my dd in this aspect. She has recently turned 4 and i have swapped her 1 weekend enrichment class from english reading & writing to a chinese class at Han Language school. She does not display a dislike for the chinese language but rather an inability to recognise characters and enunciate them correctly, leading to frustration. She does not come across as the sort that would self-motivate. I do not molly-coddle her but i recognise her temperament and attitude is vastly different from mine.
I would like to seek your opinion on whether i should still enrol her to TNS. I have heard a lot of horror stories (ranging from students being booted out at primary 3 because they cannot maintain the school’s required grades level to being forced to enroll at enrichment classes). While stress is inevitable, i always believe we should pick the right school in according to our child’s character and abilities rather than what we want (best school, branding, ranking etc etc).
I appreciate any advice. Thank you. -
