I don't know why you sounded upset. I think everyone are just trying to find the best case scenario when they can. That's why I am enquiring here. I am not blaming MOE policy, just wondering if there are alternatives for cases like mine. Understand that the policy needs to cater to all, but wouldn't by distance be a more logical way than by GRC? As we know, sometimes the way the GRCs areas that are cut out can be really wide and odd. I believe being near to school is more important (Maybe this is just my person thinking).still_learning:

Restrictive? Yes, but what else are you expecting from a one-size-fits-all policy?
Not happy, talk to your MP about it - not to get him to write an appeal letter (because it won't work) but to get him/her to raise it in Parliament (though I doubt they would do it
)
That said, if you can't get into the school of your choice, that isn't entirely due to MOE policy / MOE fault. Just down to bad luck (or bad planning) that there are other equally staying nearby parents applying to the same school within the same phase.
Notwithstanding, the key point is you have \"options\" - much better than having no option in the slugfest. You have the option of using P2B or P2C, and the option of choosing a number of schools within P2B / P2C. -

Upset? Why should I be?

While distance may be a logical way of looking at things, there are also other logic to consider. One logic may, or may not, be better than another logic.
E.g. I would think that there is a need to look at how GRLs are being 'distributed' to schools. Otherwise, popular schools that are at the boundary of GRC (e.g. CHIJ SNGS) will face an overwhelming number of applications in P2B. There is a possibility that a significant number of GRLs within the GRC will be balloted out because of applications from \"out-of-towners\". As building a community identity is as important as registering at a nearby school, to ringfence against the possibility of \"out-of-towners\" gatecrashing the party, it could be argued that the GRC boundary is a more logical way than distance.
P/S: CHIJ SNGS is probably a bad example because it's already overwhelmingly popular without GRLs from AMK GRC. -

few things to make sure
you must have 2 years continuous service ..... (best by 1st May 2018)
pls check
next, NRIC address as of 30th June 2018 - MOE will recognize that address for your kid's registration in July 2018
don't care if you have 2 houses or 10......
and IMPT ! both husband and wife's NRIC Address must be the same.
next, 30 months ----- if you have gain entry into the sch by using a distance based advantage
i.e. if you have not, you do not need to fulfil the 30mths requirement.
(example: 40 places, 35 applied [consiting of within 1KM and outside 2KM] , no balloting required, all gets in.... can shift house !!! )
lastly, logistic.......
factor into the morning kids going to sch jam..... -
Dear all KSPs,
I would like to ask if anyone here have experience if the estate you staying do not have any RC or NC.
What should you do?
Are you able to join the RC/NC nearest to your estate?
Or can choose the ones nearest to the school that you want to apply for?
Thank you in advance for the replies. :thankyou: -

Sorry, why is starting grassroots now considered too late for mid-2019 registration? Saw that it takes 3-6 months to get Exec Member status, and then after that can request letter based on how active you are? Is there a longer minimum time rule (either official or unofficial)?
If you plan to go for GRL route, I'm afraid you're a bit too late. You can still try to do PV though, but you'll have to secure your PV slot this year as registration is in mid-2019.EzEn:
Dear Parents
If my child is born in 2013 and starting primary school in 2020, when registration usually starts?
And how do I know what are the primary schools under the GRC that I wish to sign for as RC member?
Can someone help me? Im all so clueless and read that people are starting to volunteer and clock in PV in their preferred school. Is there no hope for me?
I'm in the same boat as OP, was planning on signing up as GRV now

You have to be active for at least 2 years (not including the โobserver periodโ) before you are eligible for the GRL benefit, which means you have to be active by mid-July 2017 to qualify for mid-2019 registration.

Unless you can turn back the clock, you are too late. -
How do I register to be serving in Tanjong Pagar GRC if I am currently staying in a different GRC? Will only move closer to year end into Tanjong Pagar GRC. My second child is born in 2014 and hope to register him under phase 2B in ACS Pri as it is near to where his sister is going to.

My advise is to approach the nearest RC/CC to inquire on joining the grassroots of new residence.
One think to add is that it is not a given that one can switch RC and retain the years of service, one RC I know of, require you to go thru observer phase again to gauge your active level before decide on whether to let you join and also if the RC is already reached its quota of members and observers, they might not accept new observers. Tanjong Pagar GRC is very popular because of ACS and Radin Mas, so have to cater extra time for this. -
Thanks troychua79, I will check with the individual GRC. It seems like there isnโt a standard way this is handled and dependent on individual GRC if they allow automatic transfer or not.
