Ascendas in deal to build $1.5b tech park in Johor
Ascendas Land International has inked a joint venture agreement with a unit of Malaysia's UEM Land to develop a technology park in Iskandar Malaysia in Johor.
The tech park will be located in Nusajaya, one of the five flagship zones in Iskandar. It has a projected investment value of $1.5 billion.
Ascendas will hold a 60 per cent stake in the joint venture while UEM, the real estate arm of Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional, will hold the remaining 40 per cent.
In a statement on Tuesday, the two firms said the 210ha freehold tech park will offer quality infrastructure to support a range of industries such as electronics, pharmaceutical and medical devices, food processing, precision engineering, fast-moving consumer goods, logistics and warehousing and general engineering services.
Ascendas is an arm of JTC. Happy that the government is listening? Soon, Singaporean PMEs can avoid the morning MRT rush hour crush and enjoy the wide open spaces by commuting daily to JB to work. :celebrate: -

It is an MNC.
I guess you take the view that businesses and/or their owners are the enemy of workers.limlim:
Anyway, I was retrenched twice..
no big deal. Almost everyone in the company can't wait for it to close down and shift out.. so that they can seek better pasture after the payout. Good riddance.... they say..
Has it ever occurred to you that the environment in the company was bad precisely because the business was not doing well? Not everyone is so blase about losing their jobs, and not every closure is greeted with derision like yours.
Unless we (as in people with g'ment) are willing to work together to keep bringing businesses in, as a small country, we can only say good riddance so many times before everyone leaves town.
It posted RECORD Profits, even during the economic crisis.
But none of the benefits goes to the workers.
It is well known for squeezing workers to the last drop. Have you ever heard of $1 annual increment? Yes, the company did that to some of the operators. (forget the lowest was 50cts or $1..) Technician increment ~$20. Company remains profitable.. largely profitable.
Not sure what is your background and where you came from, but have you ever encounter such companies and experience what some workers went thru? Maybe your company is not like that. But it doesn't mean such companies do not exist.
Anyway.. take it as one isolate example.. I'm not saying other companies are like that.. I just say I was retrenched before.
Those who have solid skills and experience would have little difficulties finding jobs.. (of coz more difficult now will all the FTs around). Those who are finding difficulties.. not sure if they were grossly overpaid in their previous employment.. well.. at least maybe they have had fat pay cheques before.. -
:offtopic: Ooooh, great.... now we have pirate and pirated (?!)

Govt never teach those sons of Singapore to do National Service and create employment for locals.... :spank:
Closer to Singapore!
This is a Singapore company off shoring to other countries. -
some workers due to attitude problem regardless how good they are, deserve zero increment…in fact, must find the right opportunity to let them go without having to pay retrenchment benefits
because of their bad attitude, they will also influence the good workers. hence for the larger good of the company, better to let them go as cheaply as possible -
employment opportunities are created for deserving and qualified locals

limlim, its sometimes hard to understand these things. Even if profits were good but outlook going forward is bad, pay increment may not be prudent, adding headcount may not be prudent. Rather than $1, which is insulting, I'd not rather not give any increment.

Perhaps the Singapore unit was losing money? It costs a lot of money to conduct retrenchment, curious why they would do that to a profitable unit. -

Maybe they could make more record profits elsewhere?
