Hi plum-cake,Tinkerbelle:
Dunno if this will help but I always tell DD to see the digits in different place values (like hundreds, tens and ones) and add them together to counter check her answer...
Tinkerbelle, :salute:
Thankyou for the Idea of double checking. I am going to teach her to do that. she never check her answers or look back. always do the questions in a hurry.
sorry only this one confused me
Rational is 8 hundreds= 80 tens. Plus 7 tens= 87 tens.I teached her to divide.
for ex. 876 = _____tens _____ones.
then, for 10s she had to divide 876 by 10 then the ans will be 87 tens and then the remainder will go to ones i.e. 6.
Sorry ....See if I can explain myself better.
Eg: 345 = 3 hundreds, 4 tens, 5 ones. This type of question is easy for the kids to identidy with hence many kids tend to follow this pattern when answering other types of question like 345 = _____tens ____ones. Many kids will just see 4 tens and 5 ones as the answer, and not look at the 3 hundreds. The 3 hundreds must be represented as well. As there is no hundreds in the question, the hundreds will be regrouped into tens instead. 1 hundred=10 tens thus 3 hundreds will be 30 tens. There are already 4 tens in the tens place value so you add the 30 tens to the 4 tens and you'll get 34 tens.
Thus, to make things simpler for my DD, I explain to her that in all 3 digit numbers, the first 2 numbers will be the tens after regrouping.
Eg: In 345, the first 2 digits are the tens and the last digit is the ones. so answer is 34 tens, 5 ones. Hope that's clearer. -

I really messed up everything. I started teaching Bar modelling cause Her school has started teaching them. At the same time thot of doing some rivision, and make her do the 1st chapter...... now I am stuck because I found that she is not very clear in her 1st chapter. now going back to basics to encourage her to learn place value

Hi Mummies,
I happened to walk into Popular IMM this morning.
There is a member sale for some books…Visible Thinking in Maths is one of them. P5-P6 just arrived yesterday.
Price of books range from $6.50 to $8.20 (P1-6) according to the poster…at the cashier, the price of the P6 is $9.90 after discount…which is quite far off from the price mentioned. I will take it that $8.20 is the price for P6 level but the supervisor insisted that Popular cannot commit to the price mentioned…to me, I find that companies should honour the price printed esp such a large company like Popular :x -

Don't think you messed things up. I'm also teaching my DD models now. My DD also forgets old stuff once new topics are being taught. So sometimes, I also need to revise old topics with her when I have time.
Give your DD time. I'm sure she'll get the hang of all the place values with more practice. :ugogirl: -
