[Bukit Timah] Primary Schools

It seems to me there will be fewer vacancies after phase 2a2 at NYPS…lower than previous years…(except for dragon babies)…gosh…may need to ballot at phase 2b

markfch,
Duchess area is within 1km of Nanyang, and RGPS.
A friend is staying there. She has registered daughter under Phase 2A1 in CHIJ TP but thinking whether to pull out and put daughter in RGPS.
Nanyang has 161 places for Phase 2A2. Is it hard to tell at this point what the take up rate is ? Roughly number of vacancies for Phase 2C ? -

if i don't remember wrongly, phase 2C vacancies ranged from 25 to 55 (depending on each year's baby birth rate as well as siblings at phase 1) : meaning phase 2B & 2C ranged from 50 to 110.....hence the take up rate at phase 2A is roughly 60markfch,

Just wondering, what would be your choice if you could apply for either SCGS or RGPS under phase 2B?

SCGS girls have no worry of getting into SCGS secondary, hence less stress at PSLE. But the stress comes later - after O Levels because not many places left in the top JC.... and even 3 points at O level has difficulty getting into HCI or RI.
if your girl is self motivated, quite bright, likely to score above 260 in PSLE, then go to RGS and then apply to IP school after PSLE - through train all the way to JC2 - save the headache and stress of getting into JC after O level. RGS is not a feeder school to any secondary school - hence it will be pressure cooker to do well to get into a top secondary school
the choice is yours. think long term
the present education landscape is putting O level students at a disadvantage as far as entering top JC is concerned -
Busymom,
I will choose SCGS too, since there is no headache of secondary school. 10 years is as far as I can consider. For JC, let the child work hard to get into a good one.
RGPS doesn’t have affilation to RGS, so there is pressure to perform well. -
I would choose RGPS, despite having no affilation.
-
Busymom, I will choose SCGS too for the very fact that RGPS will be re-located for 2 years in another premise very soon.

Just a thot.. Should I be worried for my girl who is reg in 2c for nyps? If we can't get in, wat shld we do?
For those who failed in Nanyang Primary School, a handful of them will head for Bukit Timah primary School. A neighbour of mine who failed in the balloting within 1km for her 1st and 2nd child turned to New Town Primary School. She will be trying her luck again this year for her 3rd child..... -
Really depends on the child…will she strive and prevail in RGPS sort of environment
