There seems to be some new CCA clubs coming up.
As I read the CCA section on the APS website,
I see new info. There are a few new IT clubs, and is the
Pottery club something new?
But a little disappointed that for some clubs like
Junior techno club, if you are p2, it is by selection only.
How does the school choose the ‘right’ students?
And what makes a student more ‘right’ than another.

Yeah, I agree with you. My ds got a letter today that says that he was selected for guitar club this year based on observation last year for a guitar musical. I wonder how do they do this. Anyway, my son is not inclined...There seems to be some new CCA clubs coming up.

Has any parent from P2 received letter for the Chinese speech n drama to commence during PAL lesson next week? Apparently, my son received one and it seems that we have no option to opt out for it. I am not sure if this is a compulsory lesson (during PAL) or not?
My ds prefers to have PAL instead because he mentioned it is more fun. We are asked to pay $26 for 8 lessons, commencing 15/1 (during 2-3 pm - which is half way through their PAL lesson).
Confused now...not sure if we can opt out or not...?
Thanks!

Yeah, I realized that too...prefer for my PE classes for my ds... I guess we have to make up for it by taking our kiddos out more often!Have any parents noticed that the P.E. lessons has reduced greatl this year?
I remember at least 1.5 hr /wk for last year ( 3 period together ) but this year, only twice a week at only 1/2hr per session!!!
I thought MOE is promoting more outdoor activities ? Does this got to do with the changed in school's principle? -
mashy:
Actually, if you recall, the students were actually graded and ranked in P1 itself although MOE has abolished the semestral assessments, etc. We didn't know that the school actually ranked the children in P1 until last year when we received the results of P1 performance!LYL10:
Did anyone check up what is the difference between the Chinese classes? Are the children being taught the same stuff thou they are in different classes??
Yes, they are taught differently. The better ones had more advanced ting xie and more challenging stuff.
I guess after all, students are ranked and assessed on a continually basis from P1 onwards... making them competitive from these young ages. -
Yes. I think the school still does the background work ranking the kids and is also tracked my moe. Cos I did received a certificate for my son from moe which surprise me cos my time no such thing.

I saw the Chinese speech and drama letter too. My DS is not keen to attend so I am wondering too if we can opt out.

Are you refering to the cert that was signed by the MP? -

They might as well tell us upfront that the kids are ranked. To think i didnt bother to revise w my child for the terms tests and exams. Was surprised too when we got the report book and cert from MP/constituency. -

Thats good, maybe you can talk to your child again to find out if he's not interested or other factors like teachers/ whether he wants to join his friends in other CCAs.
On the contrary, mine is interested but says he was not selected.
That's why I am disappointed over why can't they let interested kids try out
