Yeah, I agree with you. My ds got a letter today that says that he was selected for guitar club this year based on observation last year for a guitar musical. I wonder how do they do this. Anyway, my son is not inclined...

Thats good, maybe you can talk to your child again to find out if he's not interested or other factors like teachers/ whether he wants to join his friends in other CCAs.

On the contrary, mine is interested but says he was not selected.
That's why I am disappointed over why can't they let interested kids try out

Is your child in P2.6 too? If yes, I can ask my ds to recommend him to teacher to take the class...it is a guitar CCA. My son is not keen becoz he plays drum and has quite a number of other activities like swimming, etc...that's why he didnt want more, which I understand...
Hi Fabbymum,
mine is another class 🙂 thanks very much for your kind gesture, it's okay. Shall scout around for other suitable CCAs to keep DS occupied. if not, shall discuss w form teacher.
🤷 Has any parent from P2 received letter for the Chinese speech n drama to commence during PAL lesson next week? Apparently, my son received one and it seems that we have no option to opt out for it. I am not sure if this is a compulsory lesson (during PAL) or not?

My ds prefers to have PAL instead because he mentioned it is more fun. We are asked to pay $26 for 8 lessons, commencing 15/1 (during 2-3 pm - which is half way through their PAL lesson).

Confused now...not sure if we can opt out or not...?

Thanks!

Fabbymum.

I saw the Chinese speech and drama letter too. My DS is not keen to attend so I am wondering too if we can opt out.

I just wrote an email to my ds's Chinese teacher, asking if we could opt out. I will share more once I hear from her... 🙂 His teacher is Mdm Koh Ah Lek.
Thanks! I emailed her twice last week but the emails bounced back. Strange.. I got her email from the sch's website.

Hi tigger88,

My ds asked the teacher today, she mentioned that the class is to be held during PAL, my ds told me that it is compulsory.

So, I guess I will just register him…no harm. Anyway, the teacher has not replied me, but I did not receive any bounced email either.

No problem about that! Do lookout for more CCAs... 🙂

My daughter is also in 1.6. The school actually \"test\" the kids to see their level of Chinese to split them accordingly. My daughter was ask to a few questions and to translate some things from English to Mandarin. This is the norm for APS. The P1 is assess this way, but P2 onwards will be based on the previous year results.

Did anyone check up what is the difference between the Chinese classes? Are the children being taught the same stuff thou they are in different classes??

They are suppose to be taught on the same stuff but at different speed. And if I am not wrong, the better classes get taught on the Shen Kwang section while the weaker class leave that out.

There seems to be some new CCA clubs coming up.

As I read the CCA section on the APS website,
I see new info. There are a few new IT clubs, and is the
Pottery club something new?

But a little disappointed that for some clubs like
Junior techno club, if you are p2, it is by selection only.
How does the school choose the 'right' students?
And what makes a student more 'right' than another.

*ponder*
The \"IT clubs\" are by selection only. And normally only those in the IT classes are selected for P3-P6. Infocomm will be more for the general.
