90+ is extremely good for p5 leh.
PinkKimono.. Your DS did well in Math.. Congrats !PinkKimono:
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the info.
Firefly38, my son's overall score for Maths (P2 level) is 90 (without much guidance at home). We bought him an assessment book and asked him to practice before exam. Guess I need to work harder next year, heard P3 will be harder.
I recall when my DS2 joined CHS at P3, he scored only 69 for SA1.. Then he improved to 70+ in SA2.. In P4, DS2 scored 80+ for both SA1 & SA2.. This year (P5), DS2 scored 90+ for both SA1 & SA2..
All thanks to the dedicated Math teachers he has met in CHS..

Hi PinkKimono, my boy from 2 Charity to 3 kindness next year...might meet you in some of the activities next year...he also told me he was randomly allocated, but I remember just weeks ago he told me the teacher say there he can go to \"good\" class if he do well...come to think of it now, it could be encourage them to study hard...Hi,
Just found out that my boy will be going to P3 Kindness next year. Is it still true that 3 Kindness is one of the 2 top classes?
Thank you. -

DS2 got 95.. Seems like this year's paper was not as difficult as past years' papers.. Quite a number of the boys got 100..
For the first time, DS2 got an award - Best Improvement Award !
DS2's languages are in the 70s range, though.. -
With all these talk about class allocation, just wondering when will we know the class allocation? My DS returned home with the report book. It is not reflected in the result slip. I asked him and he said donβt know. Did I miss something here?
By the way, is going into top class really important? All along I was under the impression that the school will assign the better teachers to manage the weaker classes. I donβt like the idea of putting all the weak students in one class or all the good students in one class. This "pigeon-holing" encourages elitism. Granted. Some of you may say that it is easier for teachers to plan lesson and teach at the correct pace. But teachers are trained to conduct differentiated lessons within the class. So I donβt see any problem here. Iβm more for mixed ability classes. I always tell my DS to help his classmates because he will learn when he is helping. I think he will be stressed out if he goes into a so called top class. -

Keep it up - this kind of performance - good potential for A* for PSLE. Even for PSLE prelims (my son's year, there were 3 prelims?)...quite a number of boys got 100marks, including my son's class...and his was like the 4th Non-GEP class? Means that their is just the best non-HCL class lah. So all quite good in math/science but horrid in chinese.phankao:

Firefly38, thanks. Hopefully he will do as well in P3. My girl (P6 this year) did well in P1 and P2 but started failing from P3.

Alie, see you in 2014
Bigfoot, my son's teacher informed us (in his report book) that he is promoted to 3 Kindness. Maybe you can check with his classmates' parents? The class allocation should be out.
To comment on your posting... to me going into top class is not that important. Most importantly is that he can cope and understand what are being taught in school.
As for mixed ability classes, not all students (and parents) are alright with the idea. My personal experience, my girl is a below average student (hopefully she will pass her PSLE). During a 'meet the teachers session', parents complained that weaker students in the class is slowing down the progress of better students as the teacher has to slowing his pace. You may be right, teachers are trained to conduct differentiated lessons within the class but in reality I'm not sure if that is possible. The weaker students may have problem following the lesson. My girl will be one of them

The problem comes when they are not allocated the suitable teachers. And the attitude and aspirations of their fellow classmates. It may not be too positive, that's all. I've seen it happen with my eldest. Thankfully out of the school system already.Firefly38, thanks. Hopefully he will do as well in P3. Hi All,
This coming Saturday is the Orientation day for P1 kids.
Can I get some info from the parents here, what should I look out for?
Btw, I have ordered DS books through email. But what about the uniforms?
Thanks so much in advance!! -
Does anyone know how to remove the name tag on the PE t shirt (iron on type)?

Just attended CHS prize giving day and was glad that the school principal is of the same view as me that they shouldn't put all the good students in the same class. So, not just for P4, I believe all other levels as well. While I do agree that not all teachers may find it easy to teach, they also should not take the easy way out. Likewise for parents, you should not blame the not so ready children for hindering your child's learning. I mean, we can't control the environment for our kids all the time. Having said this, I do respect if your view is different. I think there is no right or wrong. It is just a matter of different view.
Anyway, school is out for now. Enjoy your time with your DS! For me, I am looking forward to the year end holidays! Cheers!
