Anyway, my p5 boy tells me that there are a few p5 boys who were posted to 5goodness after being asked to drop GEP after p4. I'd not heard of boys dropping out of GEP in Cath High before ... and just after 1 year .. hmm...good guessing... Maybe that's how they come out with the term GEM...
let me guess: Gifted Education with the Mainstream?
Ha.. Ha... That's what I told my DS... You're in GEP and they are not... so maybe the teacher trying to give the other encouragement...phankao:
Wonder what the GEM stands for... anyway my DS said that during the class normally the teacher will keep praising those from Goodness... my DS feels 'not appreciated'... :?
Whateva lah. Your son is in GEP. Goodness is not. why he sad? -

Agree... my DS told me that his class very noisy... few times he shouted at them when teacher not around as he is the Deputy Captain.. cause he can't stand the noise..syshi:

Sorry ah, heard from my DS that 4FA is rather rowdy, even if tr tell 4FA that other classes are better behaved, the boys replied tt tr must be saying the same thing other classes so that the class will strive to behave better. So smart alec right? DS also said there are some very well-behaved ones...
In addition, GEP students are good in Eng and/or Math, Chinese depends on individual kid. -

I wonder whether the statistics is correct...syshi:

Actually, we may never know the truth. What could happen is that (1)the boys could have asked to be taken out of GEP, or .. (2) the school *encouraged* them to request to be taken out of GEP. Then become \"zero\" dropout rate, right?

Just like if we were asked by company to *resign* instead of being *sacked*. -

Your son must be having a hard time then, having to \"manage\" such a noisy class - really not easy. May be get form teacher to help him with a system of writing down the names of those very noisy ones on the board and get them to stay back or other punishment??

previously the form teacher punished the whole class due to those few 'noisy' children by not giving them recess or shorten the time. Or going back slightly late... My DS was so mad as he felt that he got punished for no mistake of his... But he didn't dare to confront form teacher... Just before the school GEP briefing, all was restored... Else I think my DS will hate the GEP program...

yup... Those 'common' trick to make the statistic looks good... Those few 'kicked' out from GEP were from FA or GO?

I always encourage my son to speak up if he thinks that it is not a fair punishment. However, if he chooses to keep quiet, then I tell him that he has to suffer the consequence together with the rest
(in his previous class, boys always get punished and he could name me girls that misbehave too and felt that he did not contribute to the noise level) Being fair is very impt to DS. However, I challenge him to look out for those not treated fairly and speak up for them. However, if it's for his own rights, always tell him it's ok and learn to let go, since life is never fair to begin with, better accept that. My main struggle with DS is: how to put him in difficult situation to train his EQ.

Agree on that... tried talking to DS on this too to train his EQ...syshi:

Seems like a 'common trait' shown across some of the GEP children I met that they are a bit 'Straight' not enough EQ. Similar to my DS
For other kids, my DS dare to speak up.. but not for himself... :stupid: -
Ha ha, we call our DS robot - tit tit one, cannot bend at all. When he gets upset or cry over little things, weโll tease him that his low EQ is at work. Always emphasize to him that IQ can only bring him that far but EQ is more impt in life. Of course, high EQ but no moral values is also not what we desire.
