      Hi,

Can anyone share the overall SA2 results for year 2011 ... the small attachment slip that comes with the report book indicating the level mean, max, ... marks for each subject? Some parents said it is a big jump from P2 to P3 while others said it is from P3 to P4.

Also, does CHS release such statistics for every test or just SA2? I know some schools do that for every test.

      Thanks.
the big jump is p3 to p4. So far chs release statistic for Sa1 & Sa2. During DS1 time, they hv ca1, ca2 also. So also hv statistic. But by DS2 time, only amode, so no stat given for ca1 & ca2.

Is ur ds in P3? My ds2 hand in report bk already, otherwise i can scan the slip n post here.

Careermum (and other forummers here) - do you enrol your sons in the HCL Chinese Language Centre which was supposedly started by a former Cat High Chinese teacher? I heard many Cat High boys have Chinese classes there. When I visited them a few weeks ago, they told me more than 50% of their students are from Cat High... Are the classes there really good? How do they compare with Berries or Tien Hsia? Also thinking whether the Compo/Compre is better, or the normal Chinese tuition class. Appreciate any feedback or experience you have with this centre!

So far had mixed feedback from various people.

My friend's daughter went to HCL, managed to get A* & got into St Nic.

Some of the parents from CHS whose sons went there also gave positive feedback.

There are others in this forum who gave negative feedback:

When my DS1 was in P5, HCL conducted afternoon classes in CHS premise itself, and I signed him up. After 1 year, he didn't like it, he said very boring; they just keep making them remember good phrases & write compo. He didn't want to continue in P6, so I sent him to Eduplus. He said more fun there. Managed to improve from B to A, higher chinese from borderline to Merit.

Maybe they send a different teacher to outside premises vs learning at the centre itself.

May need to ask around for more feedback.

Hi, he is in P2 🙂 I am just curious to know the level stats to know when the big jump occurs. If CHS provides the stats for every test or term (like some other schools I know of), then we would know the jump straight away after each test but unfortunately they don't.

Can you share why the big jump is p3 to p4? More homework or big drop in Level Mean Scores?

          Thanks!

This so call jump is throughout all Pri, not just CHS.

The jump is P2 to P3, cause you will realised your kids P1/P2 result like very good, and P3 suddenly drop until your jaw drop.

The next jump is P4 to P5, you will see another round of result drop.

              Thanks JonC!

Some parents get stressed when their kids started scoring less than their \"usual\" range.

For me, the actual scores are not so important since it depends on the difficulty of the paper. After knowing about the \"big jump\" (many parents of different schools mentioned that ... though the actual level differed from one to another), it would be good to know the level's overall scores as a benchmark.

Is ur ds in GEP that's why transferred in P4? Very few pple transfer from P4 onwards unless GEP.

The AMEC is for GEP students. I think very few or even no mainstream student are there, unless exceptionally good. Previously AMEC is by invitation only, ie teacher select the very good ones in math, and the club prepares them for competition, math olympiad etc; but not sure if still by invitation only. You can email the teacher in charge. The email add should be on the CCA list, which will be given soon.

Young Aviators is considered an enrichment (in other sch, they are known as clubs & societies). In CHS, students have to join a niche CCA 1st (Sports, Aesthetics, or Scout), before they can join an enrichment (also include robotic, chess, bowling etc). You may check with the CCA HOD to see if this rule still applies now.

Your ds can go and take a look at the Young Aviators room to see if he likes. The room is on the same level and facing the parade square. He can ask the teachers for direction. They are sometimes opened during recess. My ds2 (not in the club) bought some DIY aeroplane models from them before. If the room is not open, your ds can still look at the models that they made & displayed at the window.

                      Hi, Mummies and Daddies:

Anyone can advice me two thing:
                      1) How usually Chinese teacher request kids practice ”习字“,how many times he need to write, My DS kind of blur, know need to write but forget how many times teacher request to write. (p4)
                      2) Usually other school will ask kids to sit for "new south wales" test, how about CHS ?

Not too sure about 2 days a wk, but looking at the website:

                        http://www.catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/index.php/cca

One of the day is for young aviators, the other is remote control. It could be different days for different groups. Just like the sports cca, sch team & non sch team go on different days. As far as clubs are concern, usu only 1 day a wk. You can check with the teacher i/c for more details. Also, the sch will be giving handouts for cca soon.
