Hmmm, parents seemed so involved when the school has activities and such. Strangely, it’s so quiet here instead. Anyway, here’s wishing everyone in GYPS, including the parents, children, all staff & canteen operators a Happy & Prosperous New Year! 万事如意,学业进步,马到成功,步步高升!!!

My son is not Singaporean, not PR.

            We live around Balestier Rd.
            It’s little far from school.

Will this school arrange a school bus for him?

I’m a foreigner, however, i would like to share some of my ideas about P1 education.

Firstly, the standard study program in SG is quite high in compare to other countries in the world. So I think you all should not worry that children could not have enough knowledge.

Secondly, as the world is becoming flat, mean in 10-20 years more, you should not expect that your children will stay around in small Singapore to find a job. The world becomes border-less and the most important skill that children need is to be able to over come the culture shock when they move from country to country. One Pri Sch like GY with children from multi countries and multi cultures should be the good starting point for them. Also, with some researches recently, children whom moved around during childhood and faced more cultures would be more confident and easier to be success in compare with other. So, as my idea, give them the chance to prepare.

I applied my boy to GY this year, not quite sure that we could have a chance as we are foreigners. But we visited GY 3 months ago and think it is good enough. Teacher is quite friendly and the students were quite nice when we visit.

can contact school admin, ask for the school bus operator telephone, then call up school bus driver whether got school bus or not, go your house to fetch children to and fro daily, to school.

For all you know it might be a blessing in disguise 🙂

Dd in p2 now, always keen and happy to go to school. The school is proactive to improve itself, very apparent when i see some improved measures done to facilitate school events. I'm truly impressed and heartened to hear that the P wants the school to partner with parents in this journey for the best interest of our kids. It was during an address to the parents and i remember feeling so touched by his sincerity when he said that.

More importantly, there are great teachers here. We are blessed my dd has an amazing FT. Although there is a high number of foreigners in dd class, we fellow mummies bonded regardless of nationality and supported each other via WhatsApp with no agenda and only for the best interest of our kids. I'm not sure if i could get this level of support from local mummies who tend to be really competitive esp at the more branded schools.

If i am not wrong, the school shifted to amk a few years ago and hence the enrolment was affected.
