Hi Sun_2010
Morinosuke, did your girl participate in the rehersal on Monday? DS is selected but could not go on Monday. Did they have to act out like the character or talk like the character?
That means they get to be in the costume for a specific time only? I thought they will be in it the whole day.
My understanding is any child who is interested an dress up as a book character. Those pre-selected by the teacher ( abt 3 per class) will go on the Costume parade and dpo their part on Stage. So should they not be in costume the whole day?
Waiting for teacher to reply.
Anyone with more details
Here's the details I gather from the teacher as well as my own daughter.
My girl did participate in the rehearsal on Monday, she says there wasn't any acting/speech involved. But apparently she was asked some short questions, just like a real beauty pageant.
The teacher says the rehearsal was meant to show the child participants how to move on the stage. Prior to the event the participant just needs to prepare a few sentences to tell the audience the character he/she's portraying, and why he/she likes the character. He/she can also talk about the costume.
And parents of the participants are allowed to wach at the hall though there won't be parking lots available.
I am still not sure about the timing of the event so am checking on this further with the teacher. Communication with the HPPS teachers/staff can be quite tedious as many details are not provided unless we ask, and there's often a half/full day delay in getting replies from them. Guess they are too busy most of the time.. -

thanks for the details Morinosuke.

I did not know that it was going to be a Q and A kind.
DS is quite shy , dunno how he will handle it. As long as it is an enriching experience i am happy. We had a costume debacle last evening and I had to spend a lot of time improvising
His FT replied, saying parents, are allowed so are u going down ? Hope to meet you. She also said that they have to change back later as they have gym, but not sure how long they will be in costume. I think the show eill be after start of after noon session.Morinosuke:
True. Given that they have classes to teach and other activities, there is an understandable delay .

Thanks to parents like you and this forum at least we can be informed.

Just being helpful by repeating the info i obtained from the blog:
FINAL REHEARSAL for pageant participants at 1215pm on Friday.
Parents of participants may come early to dress their children.
However the school has no carpark available on Friday.
Children dressed in their book characters have to bring the book to school.
If the book is not available, children may bring a printed cover page of the book (sourced from the web).
On Friday, children are to bring a small bag containing:
- water bottle
- pencil case
- colour pencils
- food / money for recess
- a book for book sharing in class: children will talk about the book and share their likes and dislikes about the character or book.
The whole of Friday will be dedicated to Books and Reading.
(so i guess no lesson proper as per the time table)
Hope this helps all P1 parents here in this forum!

Thanks cody,
And thanks for informing that rehersal will be at 12:15 - otherwise i would have gone later.
No info from FT so far, sigh!
I think the kids will be informed today. Let me check with DS.
It would be a waste to lug his schoolbag โฆ -

You're welcome Sun_2010. Frankly I didn't put in any effort in my kids' costume so am just using whatever we already have at home.

Like you say, I'm just hoping my kid enjoys her experience on the stage.
Yes the rehearsal is at 12.15pm though the actual pageant starts at 1pm, and I'll be likely there before the rehearsal to help my chid dress up.
The FT said the event will probably end before recess. We were also reminded to \"rehearse the script that's prepared\" so I'll be busy working on that tonight.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
