Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary
-
Hi everyone I am new here wish to seek some help on PV in Pei Hwa.
We just bought a property hoping to bring my daughter to top primary schools in 2022. The property is within 1km of MGS and 1-2 km of RGPS and Pei Hwa. Given the previous year ballot history; we think Pei Hwa 2B have the best chance to avoid balloting.
I do understand Pei Hwa has very tight slots in 2B and the school has been very selective on choosing PV. Just want seek your help here to check what are the criteria for school in selecting PV? The profile of the parents and their careers? The flexibility of timing? Or their way to educate their kid?
P.S. I am surgeon / doctor working in public hospital and my wife works as a corporate officer in private hospital. However we are not very capable in playing instruments or teaching kids. Does that mean we have very little chance for PV? We search online for weeks but could not find any information on this… -
Hi All,
Hope similar plight parent or existing Pei Hwa student parent can share
My eldest will be entering P1 in 2023, we are keen to place the kid (we have 3kids) in PHPPS. We have submitted application for PV.
My wife and I are from neighborhood school, we don’t know what’s it like to study in “brand” school like this. we don’t stay within 1km, we don’t mind moving into 1km to increase our chance though we stay within 1km to South View.
We are both christian, we preferred that the kids to study in a Christian school with Christian values.
Whether you feel the school environment is competitive? The students are self-entitled? How the culture like? Are the homework level high? What’s the parent involvement level? Are there a lot of children coming from rich family? -
If you were to start reading from page 1 of this thread, you should be able to feel the heartbeat, culture of this primary school.

If all things remain the same, the likelihood of you being accepted as a PV is low. As PHPPS typically ballots in Phase 2B, it’s unlikely that the school will accept you as a PV (SC > 2km), knowing that there’s a possibility that you may not even be eligible (after fulfilling the hours). It’s usually the case that you have to move before the school will consider you and not the school accepts you first before you move.

“Christian” values is also kinda vague. If you are looking for a school with strong Christian values, De La Salle is right around your corner and you don’t even have to PV to bao jiak. -
Based on some of my friends’ comments (their kids are currently in this school)…
Yes - the school envt is still highly competitive (has not changed since our time).
Culture is very Chinese-y (from the top). It is a SAP school after all.
Homework level is high. School exam papers are tough. Streaming is pretty competitive and lots of the girls score very well. Be prepared to be highly involved in your child’s studies as a parent.
Depending on which Christian denomination you are, u may or may not agree with the religious teachings there. I suggest you find out more. -

zac's mum, when you say exam papers are tough, can you also please suggest 1 or 2 schools with comparable difficulty level of exam as this school? Thanks.

Generally comparable difficulty as the other co-ed SAP schools, Eg. Ai Tong, Nan Hua, Tao Nan…
But below Nanyang, which is well known as the most difficult in SG. For Maths in particular, Cat High and Maris Stella are up there with NY. -
May I know how do I go about wait listing for my child? Not able to find any information on their website.

Not all schools put transfer form in their websites. Try calling General Office (64663787 / 64663797). Should be able to provide you with further info or direct you to the right person.

Thank you for taking time to share! Didn’t know that PV application also look at the existing address closed proximity to the school.

De La Salle is a Catholic mission school same goes with CHIJ, SJI.
Is it too late now for us to move within 1km?
