One thing I dislike abt DLS is Chinese compo is kept by school. Especially exam paper. Very tough to know what is the kid weakness and how to improve. Did have PTM but very subjective and advice given is very general. Compo not given back guess it bcos parent might query why the sentence is construct wrongly, etc.
I have requested to get the compo back but till now still not able. No idea why other school dare to give back and not DLS. -
My ger’s form teacher do not give random feedbacks… And I did ask her on feedbacks and her reply is usually very general… And she don’t take SMS and only via email… overall I have no choice since her form teacher is such… So pray she is doing ok in the class…

Hi happibbmama,melodyrain2:
Hi Favplusle,
Please tell me about the culture and learning environment at DLS? What CCAs DLS is strong at or what are the interesting ones? I read from the thread that teachers can be fierce, is it happening?
I just registered my DS under Phase 2A2 for P1 next year, so I have very interested to find out anything about the school. DS is looking forward to studying at DLS too.
Hi Melodyrain2, your DS will defintely like the new sch. Welcome him to the Lasalle family.
Thanks for the welcome
Yes, I think he will like the school. He `fell in love' with the sch when we brought him to `visit' (stand outside the locked gate) when he was still an early preschooler (N2 I think). We told him Daddy attended this school (a different premise more than 20yrs back!!!) and ever since then he has always want to study at DLS. Never changed his mind even once! I certainly hope this `love' will continue for the next 6 yrs and even after he graduates. :please:
That's why I am a little concerned about `fierce' teachers I read here because he is a little meek

Thank you KiasuMay11 and Favplusle for the info, more assured now. Phew!
Well,I find the learning and culture environment is good where the teachers are helpful and they emphasize on values like gratefulness , respect etc. If your child is a catholic he/she will attend catechism , If not he/she will attend character value lessons .melodyrain2:

For the CCA part, im not so sure... I only joined CCAs which has all girls in it.
If your child loves sports,Basketball and Taekwondo can be quite interesting.
If your child loves outdoor stuff, Scouts will be good
If your child likes IT, Robotics club will be fun
During my 6 years in DLS, I have encountered fierce teachers, but they wont be fierce (or terrible) to the extent where they pull students hair etc.
As more new teachers come to teach with others leaving the school, it may be a different case for your child.
Good to know that the school also place emphasis on good values rather than just going for academic. Phew again! :rahrah: -
Received confirmation today that my son has been accepted under Phase 2B.
Looking forward to the orientation on 27 Dec. -
Somehow I have this `anxiety’ that I may forget about the orientation totally because it is so late, only in Dec. Most schools have their in Nov right? Let’s remind each other here, okie.

Yeah the orientation does seem so late. I suppose we will get the P1 book list much earlier. Let's also remind each other once the book list is available...

Hi Maximo & Melodyrain2,
You’ll probably be receiving letters for Admin Day in Oct. That’s when you will need to go school to fill in additional forms, buy books, uniforms, etc.
Orientation in Dec: For the parents, you’ll be briefed about what to expect for the P1 school year. For the children, it will be for the teachers to get to know them and show around the school. By 27 Dec, it shd be at the old ‘new’ school compound.
I am not too sure if it is DLS’ policy but parents do not accompany their children for the 1st 3 days in school. As for this year where the school is at Teck Whye, we weren’t allowed into the school on the 1st day of school. -
Sysac:
Yup, parents are not allow to accompany. u will hand kid over at gate and don't have to hang around also as no way u could see they pop out near gate. No worry. they will be taken care.Hi Maximo & Melodyrain2,

For \"collection\", all P1 will be lead by form teacher/sibling out from side gate. u will see class alphabet stick on wall at block 551. Expect delay on first few day as school do sorting. School bus students will pick from hall and 1st to go. -

You know , I have been asking myself the same question. I remember the whole class asking bout it but the teacher did not give a clear reason why they don't want to give back our compos. However, when I was in p6, the chinese teacher will give some feedback on your compo but still will not want to give us back our compos. One thing I dislike abt DLS is Chinese compo is kept by school.
