sigh....talking about the topical test.....my son's class
had a mock test y'day and the topical test would be
something like that! it had a combination of MCQ, a few
question & answer type of qns & finally the PROBLEM
sums :!: ....can't imagine why P1s got problem sum when
many of them still struggling to read well at the 1st term
.....sigh....
and the best thing is..... my son's class had a girl
who had FULL marks :!: for that test; & that
test was not easy for a P1 1st termer standard I feel.

The storm is just brewing baby2momma.
Yes, got problem sums for P1. Mostly
straight forward ones, but yes need
children to definitely have the ability
to read well to begin with..
Now you understand why my students'
parents panicked? At least you're in Feb
now and can still work on it. They found
out only in June, after SA1. Cos no home
work & mostly learn thru play and projects.
Then suddenly slapped with exams. :!:
Good they have topical tests to gauge your
children's standard and these tests aren't
included in report book, i presume.. -
thanks a lot again buds....
yup, i learnt about all these
from my friends who already
had kids in primary school &
really cannot wait till the actual
CA/SA before parents start
panicking..... :?:
thankfully for DLS at least, their
Term 1 is not assessed; so this round's
topical test marks are not being
recorded la. just a gauge of the
kids ability/level i guess..... -
baby2momma:
hey baby2momma, how do you get to know the marks of mock test ? I heard nothing from my girl abt the mock test and I still do not know her marks of maths topical test, do you ?sigh....talking about the topical test.....my son's class

hi mvelle09,
they had that mock test on 2nd Feb and it was marked & passed back
to them on 3rd Feb; a day before the actual topical test 4th Feb.
And nope, they hv not gotten back the marks for the topical test yet…
i think tat mock test was something to ‘pre-empt’ the kids how the actual maths test wld be like… n i hear fm my kiddo tat the teacher handed back the marked papers for the mock test from the highest marks to the lowest…
if u check their maths file (yellow coloured folder thingy), the mock test papers should be there… -
Yeap. Found it thanks! I must agree that it is not an easy paper to score full marks with some tricky questions.

Here's wishing all DLS kids & parents a
Roaring & Prosperous Chinese New Year
ahead !!!!
:celebrate: -
I did not see any mock test paper but I was very shock when I received the topical test paper, my son only scored 17/25. How about your kid? I not really nagged my boy for the marks and I think as a parent we have to responsible for it also.
-
My girl did quite well, both mock 20/20 and topical test 25/25. She copes well in maths mainly because she picks up the maths concept from her MPM lessons. But a single test can’t really judge a kid’s learning ability, it is still too early to tell as kids are still trying to adjust to primary routine. [/img]

mvelle09:
Well done! last 2 days i went through the topical test and realized that my son cannot scored well because of the careless mistakes and also did not read the questions properly. I think maybe is lack of practices. In fact, we teach him daily at home and already beyond the syllabus, however i think nowadays the maths is different with our time, i think i must emphases on "reading questions"
